The City of Spokane will have several closures related to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7.
- Garbage, recycling, and food & yard waste services will be a day late after the Labor Day holiday, with normal Friday services planned for Saturday.
- City facilities including City Hall and the Waste to Energy Facility will be closed.
- On-street paid parking meters and kiosks will not require payments, but remember even when parking is free on holidays, all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.
- Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be closed.
- All Spokane Public Library branches will be closed.
- Spokane 311 employees will not be available for in-person or by phone. The public can go to Spokane311.org 24 hours a day to submit a request.
- Development Service Center employees will not be available.
- The City’s six aquatic centers are closed for the season.

Labor Day Fun!
- The Spokane Symphony will perform a free Labor Day concert at Comstock Park!
- Riverfront Spokane attractions, including the Looff Carrousel, Numerica SkyRide, and Numerica Skate Ribbon will be open Labor Day weekend.

The restroom renovation at B.A. Clark Park is complete! It features sturdy metal fixtures with vandal resistant plumbing, to reduce vandalism and extend their seasonality in spring and fall. It also offers improved lighting and coatings inside and out, and meets current ADA standards.

Improved restroom functionality and access were identified as top priorities by the community, and we’re pleased to deliver this renovated restroom as one of the first Parks levy-funded projects. Through the levy, all 50+ park restrooms will either be renovated or replaced over the next 20 years. As additional Maintenance and Park Ranger staff are hired and trained, they will also be cleaned, repaired, and patrolled more frequently.

Have you been to Spokane's "Secret Garden"?

Tucked into the hillside above Edwidge Woldson Park next to the Corbin Art Center at 507 W. 7th Ave., the historic Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens provide a seasonal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city with lush greenery and beautiful perennial flowers.

The garden was originally established shortly after Frank Rockwood Moore and his wife, Sarah, purchased the property in 1889 and hired Kirtland Cutter to design their home.

After Moore's death in 1895, U.S. Senator George Turner and his wife, Bertha, took possession of the property. In 1911, the Turners hired Portland landscape architect Hugh Bryan to enhance the garden, adding prominent Arts and Crafts features, including a two-tiered pergola and tea house.

The gardens thrived until Turner's death in 1932, and the property was eventually acquired by a bank, leading to the home's demolition in 1940. A restoration effort for the garden began in 2005, funded by grants and donations, including a substantial contribution from Myrtle Woldson in honor of her mother, Edwidge Woldson, for whom the park was renamed in 2010. Today's garden has been restored to reflect the way it looked after its redesign in 1911.

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs is closing access to the property adjacent to the Dwight Merkle Sports Complex. This property (the future site of the new Spokane Veterans Home) sustained significant fire damage and until a full assessment and mitigation efforts are complete the site will remain closed to ensure public safety. Dwight Merkel Sports Complex remains open for use.

We're getting back into the swing of things in Comstock Park after upgrading the fall zone and replacing the seats on the classic swing set! Plus, in the coming weeks, we’re adding a brand new 8-seat swing set right next to the traditional one, complete with a tot seat and an ADA-compliant seat for everyone to enjoy! These improvements are funded by the Parks Levy.
