This past Saturday, we gathered at Colby Cemetery to honor Revolutionary War patriot Ephraim Colby as part of our continuing America 250 remembrance series.

Standing in a place filled with so much history was a powerful reminder that the story of our nation was shaped not only by famous names in textbooks, but by local residents, neighbors, and families whose sacrifices helped build the communities we know today.

I want to sincerely thank the historians, volunteers, and all those who continue working behind the scenes to organize and preserve these important ceremonies. Your dedication helps ensure these stories are never forgotten.

Thank you as well to Monroe County Legislator Robert Colby and Ogden Town Councilman Steve Toms for joining us in honoring Ephraim Colby’s legacy and recognizing the impact he and so many others had on shaping our nation and our Town.

As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, moments like these remind us that history is not distant, it lives right here in our community, and it is our responsibility to continue remembering and preserving it for future generations.

Tomorrow is the big day! 🎣

Our brand new Cops and Bobbers event is shaping up to be an amazing morning. The weather looks great, we have over 60 kids signed up, and our team is ready to go! The event takes place right in front of the Spencerport Depot & Canal Museum in the village of Spencerport from 10am until Noon.

Every participant will receive one of these FREE bobbers courtesy of Aire Serv of Rochester, NY — thank you for helping make this event extra special for the kids!

While pre-registration for the derby has officially closed, we still have room for more participants. If you’d like to join us, walk-up registration will be available starting at 9:30 AM at the event.

You are welcome to bring your own bait, but Runnings has donated a good quantity of earthworms for us to use at no cost! If you don’t have a fishing pole, we have several you could borrow for the event!

We also have GREAT prizes for the winners in each category of the competition. Regardless, the real winners are going to be all the kids that simply have a great time making memories!

We can’t wait to see everyone there!

A number of residents have reached out with questions about the possible new construction taking place in the Village of Spencerport between Texas BBQ and Rooted Studio. While plans for the space have been kept quiet for some time, I wanted to share what is actually happening there.

A local resident and business owner has generously funded the creation of a public garden for the community to enjoy. This concept plan reflects the vision for the peaceful new space that is now beginning to take shape.

I know the Mayor and Village Trustees are incredibly supportive of this project, and we at the Town are equally excited to see this beautiful addition come to life for our community.

🇺🇸 Reminder: Patriot Remembrance Ceremony – May 30 🇺🇸

Don't forget, residents are invited to attend the final Patriot Remembrance ceremony on Friday, May 30 at 1:00 PM. This graveside ceremony will take place at Colby Street Cemetery, located on the south side of Colby Street.

We will be honoring Ephraim Colby, a Revolutionary War veteran and early settler whose life and legacy remain closely tied to our community.

Born in 1747 in New Hampshire, Ephraim Colby joined the Revolutionary War effort at an early age and served in several significant engagements, including Bunker Hill and Trenton. Following his military service, he settled in the Ogden area with his family around 1804. His descendants have maintained strong roots in the community ever since. He passed away in 1823.

As we conclude this Patriot Remembrance series, we encourage residents to join us in recognizing and reflecting on the service and sacrifice of those who helped shape our nation.

All are welcome to attend!

Please Spread the Word!

This Saturday, our community has a great opportunity to support and connect with local Veterans at the upcoming Veterans Resource Fair hosted in partnership with the VA of Rochester, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo’s Office, Roc Veterans and the Ogden Farmers' Library.

Veterans and their families will be able to connect with services, programs and organizations designed to help them thrive, including assistance with filing and protecting your DD-214 through the Monroe County Clerk’s Office.

One of the most important takeaways from this event: Veterans can securely record their DD-214 with the County Clerk FREE of charge, helping protect this vital document from damage, theft or loss while also making certified copies easier to obtain when needed.

📅 Saturday, May 30th
🕘 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM
📍 Ogden Farmers’ Library
269 Ogden Center Rd, Spencerport

Please help spread the word to the Veterans in your life. Thank you to everyone working to make sure those who served our country have access to the resources and support they deserve. 🇺🇸

It was truly an honor to share my heart with our community during this year’s Memorial Day Parade and remembrance ceremony.

Thank you to everyone who took part in making the day so meaningful, especially the Spencerport American Legion for continuing to lead and preserve this important tradition of remembrance. Thank you as well to Assemblyman Josh Jensen, Town Board Members Steve Toms and Josh Hinman, Mayor Gary Penders, and County Legislator Robert Colby for joining together in honoring those who gave everything for our country.

Many great groups participated such as the award winning High School Band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Ladies Auxiliary, Spencerport Baseball and Softball and more.

A special thank you also goes to the Spencerport Fire District, Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc., and the Town of Ogden Police Department for leading the parade, keeping everyone safe, directing traffic, and helping make the day possible.

Memorial Day reminds us that freedom was paid for by men and women who never got the opportunity to live out the futures we often take for granted. The best way we can honor them is to live fully, love deeply, serve others, and never waste the opportunities they never had the chance to experience.

Thank you to everyone who came out to remember with us.
