The holiday season is upon us! The Spencer Parks and Recreation is initiating a small project to provide a lasting benefit to the community. Our plan is to illuminate Cooper Commons with Christmas lights. To fulfill this objective, we rely on your support. Donations are accepted through the Owen County Community Foundation. On Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Spencer McDonald's will partner with us to host a fundraising event for the Cooper Commons Patronicity Project. As we enter the final stretch of our fundraising campaign, we are nearing our goal to create a public restroom, pickleball courts, and a basketball court located at the northeast corner of Cooper and Main. A portion of the proceeds raised by McDonald's during this event will be contributed to the parks project, supporting our community in reaching its fundraising target. Today, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, at Babbs Supermarket, smoked Pork Burgers will be available for purchase in partnership with the Spencer Exchange Club, with all sales donated to the Spencer Park Patronicity Project to support construction of public restrooms, a basketball court, and two pickleball courts. We look forward to seeing you there!

Q: How was this project chosen?

A: After reviewing the park’s development plan, the board identified several enhancements to enrich the space as it grows. New basketball and pickleball courts, in particular, were chosen for their broad appeal across all age groups and skill levels. By offering affordable, accessible venues for recreation, these courts will foster an inclusive community hub where neighbors can stay active and connect close to home.

Q: Why not build this on a different lot?

A: The FEMA lot is city-owned and can't be used for buildings like homes or businesses, but it's perfect for low-impact recreational use. It also keeps costs down since no land purchase was needed.

Q: Why do we need a new bathroom and courts?

A: The current park lacks a restroom facility, making it not usable for extended periods of time. This bathroom will be utilized by park goers, MyPath walkers, and for community events. Basketball and pickleball are two sports loved and practiced by all ages.These additions make the park usable for all ages and seasons.
