As many are probably aware, there was a house fire in our community last night. We have been in communication with multiple organizations helping this family and want to get some information out as quickly as possible. We want to make sure our love actually lands in the most helpful way possible.

💛 HOW TO HELP:

A bank account has been set up at Northwest Bank in the family's name "Carney Community Support Fund" for direct cash donations.

Gift cards are also being gratefully accepted — especially:
• Walmart
• Amazon
• Gas station cards
• Visa/Mastercard gift cards (usable anywhere, state to state)

---

A note on disaster response — because our hearts are in the right place and so should our help:

Whether it's a house fire or a federally declared disaster, the most important thing we can do for survivors is give them a choice. When disaster strikes, control, privacy, and dignity are stripped away along with belongings. Survivors still have preferences, allergies, and personal needs that none of us on the outside know about. Sometimes physical donations, however loving, can quickly become a second wave of overwhelm.

Cash and gift cards put the power back in their hands. That's not a lesser gift — it's often the greatest one.

Share this post, give a gift card, or stop by Northwest Bank. Every dollar is a decision given back to a family who needs it.

❤️ Thank you for being the kind of community that shows up. We are and it shows in moments like this when we see a community rally around those that need it most.

This week is Locator Safety & Awareness Week (LSAW), which is a celebration of utility workers' hard work and an acknowledgment of the hazards they face every day in the field. Locators play crucial and often underappreciated roles in protecting the public and our underground infrastructure. Take some time this week to thank a locator for keeping us all safe!

Help is Here: A Warm Welcome to Mennonite Disaster Service!

LTRG has some incredible news to share! For the first time since the June 2024 flooding, we are welcoming a large-scale team from Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) to our community.

Soon you'll see these white trucks and vans around town—they are here with one mission: to help us repair and rebuild homes for those who need it most. We are so grateful for their hard work, their craft, and their hearts for service.

Do You Still Need Help?

As the Clay County Long Term Recovery Group, we want to ensure no neighbor is left behind. If your home still has damage from the June floods and you don't have the resources to complete the repairs, please reach out to us.

How to connect with us:
📞 Call: 712-580-5670
📧 Email: [email protected]

Please help us spread the word! Share this post so your friends, family, and neighbors know help has arrived and that we are here to support them as they head for the finish line.

🌧️ or ❄️? April is Having an Identity Crisis.
We looked at the forecast and saw snow, then ice then rain. At this point, we’re half-expecting a localized tsunami or a heatwave by lunch.

While we’re crossing our fingers that the "frozen stuff" is just an elaborate April Fools prank by the clouds, EMS is playing it safe—and we should too. Whether it’s a cold soak or a slippery slide, here is how to stay prepared:
