Today, the Spencer Police Department says goodbye to Chief Michael Befford as he retires after a distinguished career in law enforcement.

Chief Befford came to the Spencer Police Department in 1998 as a Sergeant and has spent the years since serving in leadership roles within the department. He later became a Lieutenant and ultimately Chief of Police, dedicating nearly three decades to the officers, staff, and community he served.

Throughout those years, Chief Befford has been a part of many changes and milestones within the department and has had the opportunity to work alongside countless members of the Spencer Police Department, other agencies, town employees, and members of the community.

We thank Chief Befford for his years of service, leadership, dedication, and commitment to the Town of Spencer and the Spencer Police Department.

Congratulations on your retirement, Chief. We wish you and your family all the best in this next chapter. Enjoy it Chief, you have certainly earned it!. 👮‍♂️🇺🇸

Spencer Fair Update

TRAFFIC MUST ENTER FROM ROUTE 9 TO MEADOW ROAD

There will be NO access to Meadow Road from the Route 31 North / Pleasant Street intersection. Traffic will be directed to Route 9 West and then onto Meadow Road.

The fair continues to grow every year and with that so does traffic congestion. Having all fair traffic enter through Meadow Road allows us to better monitor, adjust and control the flow of traffic. This traffic plan was not only approved by the Spencer Police Department but also the Spencer Fair Committee and the Spencer Board of Selectmen.

FAIR SAFETY
As in years past, No weapons will be allowed on Fair Grounds. All attendees are subject to metal detector screening and bag searches before entering.
For any safety issue, please call the Spencer Police Department at 508 885 6333 or 911 for emergencies.

We know this is a fun weekend for our community, but it is also an extremely busy weekend for our first responders.

Please be patient, follow the traffic plan and follow the direction of our first responders.

For fair related questions or concerns, please contact the Spencer Fair at 508 885 5814.

🎡 Have fun and stay safe, Spencer!

A story from a few months ago in the Pittsburgh region, but one that reflects what is happening across the country. Mergers and consolidations are becoming increasingly common as volunteer fire departments struggle with declining membership, rising costs, and increasing demands.

Leetsdale Fire Department, Big Sewickley Creek VFD, and Fair Oaks VFD are planning to merge into the new Quaker Valley Fire District, operating from their three existing stations. Officials believe the consolidation will improve firefighter availability, reduce response times, cut unnecessary duplication, and allow the departments to share increasingly expensive resources. The merger still requires state approval, which officials hope to receive by the end of the year. For many communities, consolidation may increasingly become less of an option and more of a necessity.
