It has come to my attention that the length of our waiting list is being questioned along with whether it is open or not. Our waiting list is in fact open. If you verify that you are a local resident your time should be less than 6 months. This will depend upon when you applied and when the pull happens, some may be a few weeks some may be closer to a couple months. If you are not a local resident or do not provide three proof of residence your wait will be significantly longer some have waited well over a year. Now the people who live in Sioux City and the lakes area this is technically not actually a local preference because you have your own housing authority which is why these have started taking a little longer even though you have proof of address. We must serve local residents first if we run through all local applicants then we can pull these applicants.

This is a reminder about residence preferences. Providing three proof of local residence will move you to our local waiting list. This list does move faster than the general waiting list. These proofs of residence are verified once received and must all be from different sources. We will not accept three proof from the same place. Failure to provide three proofs of local residence puts you on the general waiting list. We will not track you down to provide these items and stating you didn't know is not an excuse. Your application asks for these items, if they are not turned in your response explains this as well as several posts depending on where and how you apply. This is the difference in waiting a couple months and several years on the waiting list.

We do have residency preferences. Providing three proof of local residence will move you up the waiting list faster. We do verify these proof of residence and they must be from three different sources.

Please note that all briefings will be conducted in the Spencer, Iowa office and must be done in person. Seats are limited to 25 per meeting upon a first come first served request, so when you receive your notice be sure to reserve your seat. If the dates received do not work for you, you have the opportunity to be put back on the waiting list two times before your case will be closed and you must reapply. As this is a large group and seating is limited there will be no children allowed in. If you have children; you will be required to reschedule to a day you can attend without them. Please plan accordingly.

We have had many calls asking why the waiting time is constantly changing. I would like to address this to clear up some confusion. For the last four years we have pulled the entire waiting list every month. So the system has defaulted to a one month wait. Since we have began receiving hundreds of applications a day we can no longer maintain that pace we simply don't have the capacity. So the waiting list will grow. They system has no history to estimate how long it will take to go through the applications so as they continue to come in the system is going to continue to add time until it can figure out how long it is actually going to take to get through all the applicants we are receiving. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Also if you think have applied prior to December and have not heard from us your best course of action would be to reapply because as I said we pulled ALL applicants prior to that.
