Congratulations to Northern Hills CASA (court-appointed special advocate) on 40 years of service! Thank you for all you do!

“Sadly, child maltreatment is on the rise,” said Amy Cermak, the executive director of Northern Hills CASA. Despite that, there are 71 local volunteers waiting in the wings to provide consistent support and advocacy for children as they navigate trying and uncertain times.

“We served 80 children in 2025,” Cermak said. “34 volunteers logged over 5,500 hours and traveled nearly 33,000 miles advocating for children and families.”

Congratulations to Senator Randy Deibert of Spearfish on being selected as the recipient of the inaugural "Champion of Local Control Award" by the South Dakota Association of County Commissioners and the South Dakota Municipal League.

"Senator Deibert has been a strong advocate for the principle that government functions best when decisions are made locally,” said SDACC Executive Director Kris Jacobsen. “He understands that local officials are directly accountable to their communities and are often in the best position to respond to local needs, challenges, and opportunities.”

Founded in 1989, Prairie Hills Transit provides transportation services to over a dozen communities in six different counties!

Prairie Hills Transit was honored with the CTAA Small System of the Year award for 2026 at the National Expo in Omaha, NE. Barb Cline, Executive Director and Lisa Johnson, Deputy Director accepted the award. Thank you to Megan Gould with Rapid Ride in Rapid City who presented the award along with CTAA Scott Bogren, Executive Director and Douglas Wright, President of Forest River bus, van and marine manufacturing.
