Spavinaw Mayor Amanda Miller

Spavinaw Mayor Amanda Miller Mayor. Strategist. Civic systems nerd. I fix broken processes-and occasionally, broken trust. I'm big on small government and citizen's rights. Period.

Don't ask me to use government authority to do your bidding... I ran for office to make sure that my government didn't get out of the control of the citizens given the right to exercise control over it. I believe in government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People. Apparently, that ticks some people off. :)

The Scouts will be at the cemeteries tomorrow morning to pick up the Memorial Day flags and are requesting help from the community.
Meet at the Spavinaw Cemetery at 10 am if you'd like to join the effort. The Jack Ribbon cemetery will be picked up immediately after the Spavinaw Cemetery is cleared.
Your help is always appreciated. 🙌

I want to send a personal thank you to June Miller for her donation to the Town for next year's Easter festivities. Many of you probably don't know that June makes donations like this at least once a year because she genuinely doesn't care about public acknowledgment.

So this post isn't really a shoutout to her 😊 It's a THANK YOU to all of you who donate quietly to our town or contribute in ways nobody will ever know about.

You know who you are.

The Town of Spavinaw wouldn't be what it is today without so many people quietly giving, volunteering, and supporting this community. ❤️

⭐ WALL OF HEROES ⭐

We are still seeking names to be included in our “Wall of Heroes” display during Liberty on the Lake.

This section will honor local heroes through the years, including veterans, firefighters, law enforcement, EMS personnel, educators, community leaders, and others who made a lasting impact on Spavinaw and the surrounding area.

If you would like to submit a name for consideration, please send us a message with the individual’s name and a brief description of their contribution to our community. 🇺🇸

Run for office, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. 😷

Meanwhile, it’s Wednesday evening at City Hall and I’m scrubbing the office toilet because there’s no staff on payroll this week. 🪠 (I almost got out there today and mowed the grass next to city hall! Until a magic mowing fairy offered up some teenagers who needed chores, or something like that) 😊

That’s small town government, though. Sometimes leadership looks like meetings and budgets. Sometimes it looks like rubber gloves and bleach.
Truthfully, I’ve never believed public service means being above any part of the work. If it needs done, it needs done.

And despite the occasional gross job, I’m still grateful the people of Spavinaw gave me the opportunity to serve this town. 🤢 Really. ❤️🫶🙌🙏

Yesterday there was a great turnout to place flags on our Veteran's Graves! A special thank you to the Adair Scout Troop, our Spavinaw residents, and Town Trustees Rick Evans (and his wife, Jackie) and Theresa Lipe! I love that our small towns work together to honor those who have served, and that the Scout Troop instills service into the young minds of upcoming leaders.
On behalf of the town of Spavinaw, and from the bottom of my heart,
Thank you. 🇺🇸
