Please avoid this area!!!

**UPDATE**
All lanes are open and traffic is flowing as normal.

On April 27, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Spartanburg Fire Department were dispatched to the area of East Main Street and Zion Hill Road in reference to a reported natural gas odor.

While en route, first responders were advised that a construction worker had punctured a fuel line, causing the leak.

As a result, all lanes, in both directions of East Main Street near the intersection of Zion Hill Road and Plainview Drive have been closed. The affected area is directly in front of the Ingles located on East Main Street.

Officials with Piedmont Natural Gas have been notified and are on scene working to address the issue. Public safety personnel are asking motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice.

At this time, there is no estimated timeframe for when repairs will be completed and the roadway will reopen.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

We ask everyone to adhere to the Burn Ban that's in affect until further notice from SC Forestry. Should you witness any large fires, please call 9 1 1. Thank you for your time and cooperation

Do what we say… not what we do 🫣

We’re trained to handle fires…you’re just trying to make dinner. If your smoke alarm starts cheering you on, it’s not because you’re a great cook. 😉

Stay close, stay alert, and let’s keep your meals from becoming our next call 🚒🔥

Throughout the first quarter, Spartanburg City Fire Department personnel focused on Rapid Intervention Team operations, reinforcing critical skills that support firefighter safety and coordinated response efforts. This week, that training cycle concluded as each shift completed scenario based exercises designed to apply those skills in a controlled and practical environment.

These exercises provided opportunities to strengthen decision making, communication, and teamwork under realistic conditions. Ongoing training supports operational readiness and helps ensure safe and effective service to the community.

We would like to thank our Training Division for their continued effort in developing and delivering this training for all personnel.

Photos from these scenarios are included below.

🚨 TRAINING LAST WEEK 🚨

Last week, crews with the Spartanburg Fire Department attended specialized railroad emergency response training hosted by CSX and TRANSCAER.

Personnel took part in hands on instruction utilizing the CSX Responder Incident Training Train. The training provided practical insight into railroad operations, hazardous materials awareness, and coordinated response considerations in a controlled learning environment.

Opportunities like this support continued preparedness and help ensure personnel are equipped with the knowledge needed to respond safely and effectively to incidents involving rail systems.
