Suspect Arrested Following Domestic Violence Investigation
Multiple Pursuits, and Assault on Police K-9

Spartanburg, S.C. — On June 10, 2026, officers with the Spartanburg Police Department responded to a domestic violence-related dispute at approximately 2:30p.m. Prior to officers’ arrival, the male suspect fled the scene in a white pickup truck.

Officers later located the vehicle in the Cedar Springs area of the City of Spartanburg and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled into Spartanburg County toward Keltner Avenue. During the incident, the suspect fled from law enforcement on two separate occasions.

Officers subsequently conducted a high-risk traffic stop; however, the suspect refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle. In an effort to safely take the suspect into custody, officers broke a window of the vehicle and deployed K-9 Bruno to assist with extracting the driver.

During the encounter, K-9 Bruno was cut on the top of his head with a box cutter by the suspect. Bruno was immediately transported for veterinary treatment. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.

Following the assault, the suspect fled again from officers in the vehicle. Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office later located the vehicle, and another pursuit was initiated. Deputies successfully utilized a (PIT) maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end. The suspect's vehicle crashed, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The investigation remains active, and additional information, including charges, will be released as it becomes available.

"I want to commend our officers, investigators, K-9 team, and our partners with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism, and teamwork throughout this dangerous incident," said Major Littlejohn. "We are especially grateful that K-9 Bruno's injuries were not life-threatening, and we appreciate the outstanding care he received. Incidents like this demonstrate the dedication and commitment of the men and women who serve our community every day."

Anyone with additional information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Spartanburg Police Department.

☀️ SUMMER HEAT CAN TURN DEADLY IN MINUTES ☀️

As temperatures rise, please remember: Do NOT leave your pets unattended in a vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can quickly reach dangerous levels and put your pet’s life at risk.

📖 Spartanburg City Ordinance – Section 4-15

(b) No person shall leave an animal unattended in, or tethered to, a standing or parked motor vehicle in a manner that endangers the health and safety of the animal or motor vehicle or safety of any person.

(c) If an Animal Services Officer finds a violation of this section, the officer shall seize and impound the animal and leave written notice of impoundment in a conspicuous location. The animal will remain as evidence at the animal shelter pending the court’s decision. If an owner or keeper is not found, the animal will irrevocably become the property of the animal shelter after a five (5) day impound period.

⚠️ Violations may result in:
🐾 Your pet being seized and impounded
💲 A fine of $1,092.50
⚖️ Additional court action as applicable

If your pet cannot go inside with you, please leave them safely at home. A quick errand is not worth risking your pet’s life.

The Spartanburg Police Department encourages our motorists to keep a watchful eye for motorcyclists as they share the roadways.

May marks the beginning of riding season for many motorcyclists in America. It is also Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Knowing this, the Spartanburg Police Department joins The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) in reminding all motorists that “Motorcyclists’ Safety Is Everyone’s Safety”. Motorcycle safety is an ongoing responsibility for all roadway users. Motorcycle riders continue to be overrepresented in fatal traffic collisions with two leading contributors; speed and alcohol impairment.

“In 2024, there were 6,228 motorcyclists killed, 15% of all traffic fatalities. Additionally, 37% percent of all motorcycle riders involved in fatal crashes were speeding compared to 22% of all passenger car drivers. Motorcycle riders 21 to 24 years old involved in fatal crashes had the highest speeding involvement at 56%. Of the 2,125 motorcycle riders who died in single-vehicle crashes in 2024, 40% were alcohol-impaired. Motorcycle helmet use increased among motorcycle riders from 66.5% in 2022 to 73.8.5% in 2023.” ...data from NHTSA

To keep everyone safe, we urge drivers and motorcyclists to share the road & be alert, and we are recommending motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant helmets and to always ride sober.
