Fridays in the summer can be a bit low-key and not always super dynamic as you move along on the continuum of self improvement. So what is a sure way to move the needle a little bit anyway?

Fresh haircuts.

Thanks much to Nicole S. for stopping by with her clippers.

Once again, the ladies of The Colonial Dames of America, South Carolina, Spartanburg Committee, have gone above and beyond, ensuring that the veterans in our program are honored for their military service, as they do for many of the holidays throughout the year. Through their wonderful generosity, our veterans enjoyed an amazing Memorial Day barbeque today. We are always humbled by their thoughtfulness toward our veterans, which is the kind of quiet encouragement that smooths the sharp edges and levels the paths they're on, renewing their strength for the journey and helping to make them Warriors Once Again.

A veteran rewriting his story and a family owned and operated car dealership, in existence for 57 years here in Spartanburg, shook hands this past week, to continue the highlights of each other's success. Much thanks to Auto Fleet, on Ashville Highway for getting one of our veterans into a great vehicle at a great price.

Next Saturday, May 2nd, is our fourth annual motorcycle fundraiser, hosted my , Spartanburg. All donations and money raised, directly supports the homeless veterans we serve, in our transitional residence program. Earlier this year, we expanded from five to seven beds. Through a unique opportunity, we are in the process of expanding by three more, for a total of ten transitional beds. Events like this, in our amazing Spartanburg community, will help make that happen, expanding our impact to serve those who served, in their time of need. Please come out and join us.

Before we took in our first homeless veteran, in March of 2021, the yellow front door has been our silent marker. I was admonished at the idea of a yellow front door, which only fueled my resolve to have it. Now, when telling people our story and describing where we are in the community, their faces light up and they realize they know us. "Yellow front door?!" they ask excitedly. Our flags dress it up even more now.

Behind the yellow door, 51 homeless veterans have been recovered, dignified and restored to wellness during that time and 29 more with needs other than housing, have been served. Watch for those numbers to grow as we continue to expand our footprint in the community.

We are Warriors Once Again.

This year we decided to move the charity run in support of homeless veterans to May, which is also Military Appreciation Month, as so designated by the Congress of these United States. This has always been an amazing event and we're expecting to build on it, with the date and season change. Please come out, enjoy the day and support the cause.

Fifty isn’t just a number—it’s a milestone.
This month, Warriors Once Again welcomed our fiftieth homeless veteran into safe, stable housing. Each one represents a life reclaimed, a family restored, and a journey restarted. From one veteran in 2021 to fifty today, we’ve walked beside them through hardship, healing, and hope.
