🐻 BEAR ACTIVITY ALERT 🐻

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office has received an increase in bear-related complaints throughout the county in recent weeks. Sheriff Glenn contacted the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and they have provided resources to help residents safely coexist with black bears.

Bears are often attracted to easy food sources around homes. Residents are encouraged to:

• Secure trash and garbage containers
• Remove bird feeders when bears are active
• Never feed or approach bears
• Avoid leaving pet food outdoors
• Clean grills and outdoor cooking areas regularly
• Secure livestock feed and other attractants
• Be mindful when letting your pets outside, especially during the early morning and nighttime hours when bears are most active.

For additional bear safety information and prevention tips, visit:

🐻 BearWise:

If you are experiencing wildlife-related property damage, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission recommends contacting your district biologist through the following link:

🦌 NC Wildlife District Biologists:

For wildlife conflict assistance, the NC Wildlife Helpline can also be reached at 866-318-2401 during normal business hours.

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office appreciates your help in keeping both our residents and North Carolina's wildlife safe. If you encounter an emergency situation involving a bear that presents an immediate threat to human safety, please call 911.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – ALLEGHANY COUNTY 🚨

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office has received reports of a scam circulating in our area.

Citizens are receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be a law enforcement officer. The caller tells the victim they missed court, failed to appear for jury duty, or have an outstanding warrant and will be arrested unless they make an immediate payment.

The scammer then instructs the victim to purchase gift cards and provide the card information over the phone, claiming this will prevent them from being arrested.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM! ⚠️

The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office will NEVER:
❌ Call and demand payment to avoid arrest
❌ Accept gift cards as payment
❌ Request payment over the phone for warrants or court matters
❌ Threaten immediate arrest if payment is not made

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Do not provide personal information, financial information, or gift card numbers.

If you have questions about the legitimacy of a call, contact the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office directly before taking any action.

Please share this post to help protect your family, friends, and neighbors from becoming victims of this scam.

Today, our hearts are heavy.

We join our neighbors in Carroll County and the entire law enforcement community in mourning the loss of a deputy who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. We continue to pray for the injured deputy, their families, friends, coworkers, and all those affected by this tragedy.

Behind every badge is a person who is deeply loved. These men and women leave their homes each day willing to answer calls that most of us hope we never face.

Please join us in lifting up the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in prayer. Pray for strength, comfort, healing, and peace in the difficult days ahead.

🎓 We had the honor of celebrating another successful D.A.R.E. graduation with an outstanding group of students from Alleghany County Schools.

Over the past several weeks, these students have learned valuable lessons about making good decisions, resisting peer pressure, showing respect, and building confidence to do what is right — even when it’s difficult. 💪

One of the most rewarding parts of this job is seeing young people grow into strong leaders for our community. The future of Alleghany County is bright because of kids like these. ⭐

A huge thank you to our School Resource Officers, teachers, administrators, parents, and everyone who helps make the D.A.R.E. program possible. Your investment in these students truly matters. 👏

Congratulations to all of our D.A.R.E. graduates! 🎉 We are proud of each and every one of you, and we hope you enjoy a safe, fun, and well-deserved summer! ☀️
