The top employer in North Carolina? Agriculture and its associated industries. 🚜💰

The latest statewide report found that the food, fiber and forestry sector employed 20% of North Carolinians and generated $117 billion in economic activity in 2024.

"It is clear that agriculture, defined as the food, fiber and forestry sector, employs more people than any other industry in North Carolina — one of every five jobs statewide or about 1 million jobs total," said NC State Hugh C. Kiger Distinguished Professor Jeffrey Dorfman, who authored the report.

This week we are reading Memory Jars. Freda is sad that she can't eat all of the yummy blueberries she is picking. Her grandmother tells her about making blueberry jam out of blueberries and putting it into jars so they can enjoy the blueberries in the winter. 🌱🚜 Tackling w**ds without chemicals

Farmers and gardeners from across North Carolina gathered at N.C. A&T’s Organic W**d Management Field Day to learn practical, research-based strategies for controlling w**ds without synthetic chemicals. Participants explored equipment demonstrations, organic pest management techniques, plasticulture, and integrated w**d management approaches while connecting with fellow growers.

The event, hosted by Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T and the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, highlighted the power of hands-on learning and farmer-to-farmer collaboration. 🌿🤝
