Good afternoon,

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT / OVERVIEW:
Widespread thunderstorms will affect the area beginning Wednesday afternoon and spread southward Wednesday night into the day Thursday.
A Flood Watch is in effect for much of north Georgia from 4 PM Wednesday through 8 AM Thursday.
Confidence is increasing in both the risk for heavy rainfall and flash flooding as well as for severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds and tornadoes.

WHAT:
Thunderstorms will increase in coverage Wednesday afternoon and slowly push southward Wednesday night into Thursday morning, bringing a risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding as well as severe thunderstorms.
Heavy Rainfall/Flash Flood Risk: A Flood Watch is in effect for much of north Georgia from 4 PM Wednesday through 8 AM Thursday. Widespread rainfall totals over 1.5 - 2" are expected with locally higher amounts of 3-5+" possible, leading to an increased risk for flash flooding.
A Slight Risk (level 2/5) for severe thunderstorms covers much of north Georgia from Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night with a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) farther south into central Georgia for Thursday morning.
Damaging Wind: The primary severe concern is damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.
Tornadoes: Increasing concern for a few tornadoes, especially in/near the Slight Risk area. The risk for a strong tornado cannot be ruled out.
Hail: Isolated hail up to the size of quarters is possible.

WHERE & WHEN
Wednesday morning/midday: Scattered non-severe thunderstorms possible in far north Georgia.
Wednesday afternoon/evening: More widespread thunderstorms are expected to develop across north Georgia and spread southward toward I-20 by the evening.
Wednesday night - Thursday morning: Widespread thunderstorms will gradually push southward from north Georgia into central Georgia by Thursday morning.
**Highest confidence in severe weather and flash flooding risk is 4 PM Wednesday - 8 AM Thursday**

IMPACTS:
Despite ongoing drought conditions, heavy rainfall amounts would lead to rapid runoff and the risk for flash flooding.
Street flooding could lead to dangerous travel conditions, especially Wednesday night into Thursday morning when darkness will obscure water-covered roadways.
Some smaller local creeks/streams could rise out of their banks.
Damaging wind gusts could down trees and power lines, leading to some power outages.
There is the risk for a few tornadoes, any of which could cause damage to trees, power lines, and structures. *A strong tornado capable of producing more substantial damage cannot be ruled out.*

FORECAST CONFIDENCE:
High confidence on storms increasing in coverage Wednesday afternoon and persisting into Wednesday night/early Thursday.
High confidence in locally heavy rainfall occurring in some areas.
Medium confidence in overall severe risk.
Low to medium confidence regarding the placement of the swaths of heaviest rainfall.
