There are some exciting leadership changes coming to White County Schools for the upcoming school year! We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca Ryan as our new Supervisor of Elementary Education.

Mrs. Ryan is a familiar face in our district, having spent the last nine years as the principal of Findlay Elementary School. Before transitioning into administration, she taught math at White County High School for 12 years, after beginning her education career at Avery Trace Middle School and Mt. Juliet High School. We look forward to the knowledge and professionalism she will bring to this new role.

Mrs. Ryan will be stepping into the large shoes left by Mrs. Angela Fresh, who is embarking on a well-deserved retirement this September. Mrs. Fresh has served White County Schools well for 30 years. She began her career in the classroom at Findlay Elementary, went on to serve as the principal of BonDeCroft, taught sixth grade, and spent six years as the assistant principal at White County High School before stepping into her current role as Supervisor of Elementary Education. We are incredibly grateful for her years of dedication to ensuring that teachers and students have the tools, strategies, and resources necessary to meet state educational standards. Thank you, Mrs. Fresh!

With these shifts, other leadership positions are falling into place: Ms. Beth Peek will assume the principal position at Findlay Elementary, and Mr. Wesley Martin will serve as assistant principal. Additionally, Mr. Kyle Hicks will move into the principal position at Northfield Elementary School.

Congratulations to White County Schools - Sparta, TN on being recognized as an emerging district in the Education Scorecard Recovery Report and for continuing to build on this momentum in academic recovery. Last yearโ€™s State Report Card highlights that the district exceeded the state average in overall math achievement for grades 3โ€“12, and that students in grades 3โ€“5 and 9โ€“12 also surpassed the overall state ELA average.

Dear School Community,

As we head into the final days of the school year, I want to take a moment to address a situation that occurred today in our district and share the proactive steps we are taking to ensure the continued safety and peace of mind of all our students, staff, and families.

This morning, several schools in the Upper Cumberland, including Northfield Elementary, received a concerning phone call. Thanks to the swift, practiced response of our staff and local law enforcement, the threat was quickly addressed and determined to be a hoax. We know that any threat, even a false one, naturally brings up a lot of worry and fear for families. Our top priority is and will always be protecting the safety of our staff and students.

Neighboring districts are experiencing a similar wave of these hoax calls. To ensure we remain proactive and prepared, we are increasing local law enforcement presence across campuses for the remainder of the week. Programs and ceremonies will continue as planned. Our students have worked incredibly hard all year, and we canโ€™t wait to celebrate their success.

I want to commend the Northfield staff, students, and law enforcement for their response to today's stressful situation. Our emergency protocols worked exactly as designed because our teams practice them diligently all year.

Thank you for your continued trust, patience, and partnership. Itโ€™s been a great year in White County Schools, and we look forward to celebrating the hard work of all of our students in the days ahead.
