What does the ideal East Middle scholar look like?

Today during our faculty meeting, our staff came together to answer that question, not just by identifying the traits we want to see in our students, but by asking an equally important question:

What will WE do to intentionally cultivate those traits?

Because becoming confident, curious, resilient, responsible, and compassionate doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when the adults in a building are aligned, intentional, and committed to creating the conditions where those qualities can grow.

It was powerful to see our staff come together around a shared vision of who we want our East Middle scholars to become and the role each of us plays in helping them get there.

We aren’t just teaching students. We’re helping shape who they become.

Every year, without fail, Mr. Petty’s (ELA teacher) mom shows up at East Middle School to help him set up his classroom. And every year, it reminds me that the East Middle village is bigger than the people whose names are on our staff roster.

It’s the moms who help decorate classrooms, the spouses who carry boxes, the children who help organize supplies, the siblings, parents, friends, the former East Middle students who show up, and loved ones who give up their own time to help our staff get this building ready for OUR kids.

At East, it’s truly families serving families.

Long before our students walk through the doors, there’s an entire village behind the scenes pouring love, time, and a whole lot of helping hands into making this place feel like home.

That’s what community looks like. That’s the East Middle village.

We can’t wait to see our new family members (our kids, our students) on Monday morning!

Today, East Middle School came ALIVE!

We welcomed our incoming 8th graders for 8th Grade Academy, and they brought ALL the personality, energy, laughter, and joy with them! These students are coming together from schools across our district, and today they got their first chance to explore their new home and connect with one another.

If today was any indication of what’s ahead, we are in for an incredible year. East Middle is ready for you, Class of 2031!

The building has its heartbeat back. Let’s get this year started!

And we can’t wait to meet our families on Monday, August 17 for parent orientation at 6:00 P.M.

Thank you to all who came out today to the HSD Back to School Fair!

There is something incredibly invigorating about feeling the energy of our community back in our buildings. And if today’s energy is any indication of what’s ahead, we are in for a beautiful year.
