Today, 06/01/26, the Utah County Fire Department sent out it's first handcrew of the offical 2026 fire season.

This 22 member handcrew will be going to the Summit Creek Fire in Southern Idaho. This fire is located about 25 miles south of Burley Idaho, near the town of Oakley.
This is a 14 day tour for this crew.

The Summit Creek Fire has currently burned over 1,400 acres and is 53% contained. (information from Watch Duty .org)

Update (located in Utah Co.)The fire has been mapped at 66 acres, & forward progress has been stopped.

The fire is human-caused, with the specific cause still under investigation. No structures were lost, & no closures in effect.

Thanks to the quick work of firefighters, full containment is expected tonight. Crews will remain on scene to extinguish remaining hot spots & strengthen containment lines around the fire.

This will be the last update unless significant changes occur.

*Update*

The great initial progress continued into this evening. Crews will continue working for a bit more tonight and then monitor the area over night then be back out on scene tomorrow.

With a fast response from a lot of agencies there’s been a lot progress on the Anderson Point Fire in Spanish Fork Canyon. We are very appreciative of our First Responder Partners and the combined effort to stop this fire.

There is an active fire in the area of Birdseye in Spanish Fork Canyon. Please use caution and slow down on US-89 in the area of Birdseye/Thistle.

As we head into the holiday weekend. Please, take a moment to honor our brave men and women of uniform who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

The debt that has been paid for our Nation’s ability to be free was paid for by our Nation’s fallen and may their sacrifice never be forgotten.

Place some flowers on a grave, BBQ something tasty on a grill, have family gatherings, maybe even go on a trip. Just remember, our freedom is not free and honor the fallen.

This fire was human caused and investigation is ongoing. Preliminary findings by our investigation is pointing towards target shooting as the cause. This is the last update unless significant changes occur.

Now estimated at 75–100 acres and burning actively. Fire activity is expected to decrease around sunset.

Utah County Fire Department E13 has been ordered to the Ashby Fire in Nebraska. They are mobilizing this morning and should be on their way shortly.

Brush 12, that was in Nebraska, returned yesterday from their 2-week tour.

E13's deployment is the fourth time already this year that a UCFD Fire Engine has been sent to assist anothers in their time of need. Keep in mind Utah's fire season hasn't even officially started.

Our teams are gearing up to be ready to respond to the call for aid and are happy to help others in their time of need.

Members of the Utah County Fire Department left this morning for Nebraska. Nebraska has multiple fires at this time and needs help. The UCFD was willing and able to send a brush truck and crew.
