Charlie Battery Soldiers throw their offixers in the mud at the end of every AT. The muddy officer photos are some of my favorites. I've been able to trace this tradition back to pre 1989.
The legend goes something like this:
"The Soldiers of Charlie Battery will accomplish any horrible, miserable, disgusting, dangerous task that the officers entrust them with, and they will execute it faithfully and diligently until it is completed satisfactorily.
In exchange for this service, and in one singular act of defiance, the Soldiers attack the officers and drag them into a mud pit/river/canal/pool (whatever is really available).
So in the last day or two of Annual Training Each Year, this tradition and agreement is honored between the Soldiers."
It builds morale, commraderie, and in the end we all have a good laugh.
