I don't usually write city posts in first person, but here we are.

As the city's communication guy, I occasionally get a front-row seat to our Fire & EMS team in action. And I'm in awe.

Yesterday's River Bottoms Road fire was probably routine to our crews. To me, it was anything but. Afterward, I walked the hillside in a short-sleeve shirt and caught myself complaining about the heat. I can't imagine making that same climb in full gear, hauling hose, cutting through brush, making fast and correct decisions while the flames push relentlessly toward homes.

Wildfires feel chaotic and uncontrollable. Yet, we've got people with the courage, skills, and tools to stop them in their tracks.

When it's over, there's no celebration or ceremony. Some personnel stay on the fire. Others reset and get ready for the next call. They just get back to work.

Our crews are responding to a brush fire just below the Pioneer Cemetery at about 1400 E River Bottoms Rd.

We’ll update you as possible. Please avoid the area.

So uh...Yard of the Week #4 is insane.

It's like most of our yards, times 100. The Hyer family is locked in, and you'll find it all at their place. We love the mix of xeriscaping and grass. The flowers. The rock rivers. Whatever they did to make that fence so cool.

Way to go Hyers! Well earned.

💰 FORKONOMIC$ | The Advantages of Public Power

Did you know your power bill does more than keep the lights on?

Because Spanish Fork runs its own electric utility, the revenue it generates stays right here in our community. This fiscal year alone, we transferred $2 million from power revenues into the city's general fund, helping cover public safety, infrastructure, and more.

When a private company provides power, profits go to shareholders. When your city provides power, that money works for you.

That's one of the advantages of public power. 💡
