Today is the first day of Hurricane Season. This is your friendly reminder to make sure that your household’s emergency kit is stocked, non-expired, and ready in case of emergency. Here is a link to a kit list: www.cityofsouthport.gov/emergency-kit.

Additionally, this evening (June 1) is the Annual Southport Fire Department Hurricane Expo! It begins at 5:30pm in Southport Community Building. There will be representatives from each City of Southport department, as well as US National Weather Service Wilmington NC, WWAY TV, Dosher Memorial Hospital, and more for attendees to speak with directly.

Please be advised that 𝗘. 𝗕𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝘁. 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘁. 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦. 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝘃𝗲. 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 to allow a crane to safely raise and install the new weather tower.

✅ Waterfront Park parking along Bay St. will remain open.
➡️ Motorists will be encouraged to make a right turn onto E. Bay St. to help reduce traffic on E. Bay St. during the closure.

We ask all residents and visitors to use caution, follow posted traffic directions, and exercise patience while this important project is completed.

Our friends over at Johnston County Emergency Services showed us how to make a Hurricane Prep Kit for under $20 with things that can be found at any Dollar Tree, or local dollar store. Have you started your hurricane preparations yet?

Don't forget about the Southport Hurricane Expo being held on June 1 at the Southport Community Building at 5:30pm.
