New Gear. Ready to Serve. 🚒

The Southington Fire Department recently took delivery of 35 new sets of structural firefighting turnout gear as part of our ongoing commitment to firefighter safety and operational readiness.

Structural firefighting gear has a maximum service life of 10 years, making planned replacement an important part of ensuring our firefighters have safe, reliable, and up-to-date protective equipment when responding to emergencies.

We’d like to thank the Southington Fire Department, CT- Board of Fire Commissioners, Town Manager's Office Southington CT, and our municipal leaders for their continued support and investment in the safety of our firefighters.

Investments like these ensure our members have the equipment they need to safely and effectively serve our community.

Best of luck to our newest career Firefighter/EMTs, Ryan and Zach, as they begin their journey through the Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit Program!

We’re also proud to have two of our volunteer members, Mason and Jacob, joining them. Both have made the commitment to attend the academy as self-pay recruits, with sponsorship and support from SFD, as they continue building toward careers in the fire service.

The Recruit Program will challenge all four physically, mentally, and academically over the coming months. We’re proud to see them taking this next step and look forward to watching their hard work pay off.

Good luck, gentlemen — represent SFD well!

After 25 years of dedicated service to the Town of Southington, Deputy Chief Dube is preparing to work his final days with the Southington Fire Department.

Throughout his career, Chief Dube has served our department and community in numerous roles, ultimately rising through the ranks to Deputy Chief. His years of experience, leadership, and commitment to the fire service have made a lasting impact on SFD and the members he has served alongside.

While his time in Southington is coming to a close, his fire service career is far from over. Chief Dube will soon begin a new chapter, taking on an executive leadership role with a fire department in South Carolina.

We thank Chief Dube for 25 years of service to Southington and wish him and his family nothing but success in this next chapter.

🩸Thank you to everyone who came out over the weekend to American Red Cross Battle of the Badges. This year SFD took home the trophy! We appreciate the generous donations that were provided, as well as the commitment by those who donated blood. Southington Police Department

At 00:55 this morning, SFD was dispatched to I-84 east between exits 32-33 for a tractor trailer fire. Crews arrived to find a trailer portion of a tractor trailer fully involved in fire, and began fire suppression. The tractor was not involved and disconnected from the trailer on our arrival. The driver was uninjured. Additional water was needed, as well as foam due to the heavy fire load. In addition to the Southington units on scene, South Kensington was requested for a tanker. Crews conducted fire suppression and extensive overhaul of the trailer. The truck was carrying bulk stock, no chemicals are believed to be involved. Mutual aid for town coverage has been provided by the Cheshire and Plainville Fire Departments, who handled additional incidents. No injuries reported.

‼️ Please use caution when torching weeds or nests ‼️ We have seen a recent rise in structure fire incidents caused by homeowners using torches to kill weeds or hornets nests. Call the professionals, and always call 911 if you see smoke or fire. Don’t wait. This homeowners was extremely lucky ‼️

One of our most favorite events of the year!

🔥🔥 July brought warm temperatures, severe weather, and several significant fire incidents that challenged our crews throughout the month.

We also saw an increase in motor vehicle crashes involving entrapment, along with a significant rise in simultaneous incidents—requiring crews to manage multiple emergencies occurring across the community at the same time.

Welcome aboard, Ryan and Zachary!

Our newest firefighters will begin recruit training at the Connecticut Fire Academy on August 31, where they’ll complete 14 weeks of intensive physical, mental, and academic training to prepare for the demands of the fire service.

These hires fill a vacancy created by a career member accepting a position with a neighboring fire department, as well as an anticipated retirement. We look forward to watching Ryan and Zachary grow throughout the academy and wish them the very best as they begin their careers with the Southington Fire Department.

The Board of Fire Commissioners would like to welcome the newest members to the family, Ryan Tombari and Zachary Schiavi. Each of these men will be expected to uphold the high standards already set by their peers within the Southington Fire Department.
