Company 1 is at YMCA Camp Sloper Outdoor Center for their annual polar plunge! We are providing Cold Water Safety standby, Southington CERT is here with their new resource bus for a warming center and AMR Waterbury, CT is here as medical standby.

Last night members of Engine Company 1 had the opportunity to be out with our amazing community for a night of holiday festivities. We talked with members of our community about fire safety during the holidays, volunteer opportunities (joinsfd.org) and showed a whole lot of kids and a few adults the fire truck.

Most importantly the members made sure that the Grinch was on his best behavior and wasn’t causing a ruckus on the town green and we made sure Santa was settled in to greet all the kids and talk about their Christmas lists!

It’s important to remember history of a department. Thankfully Southington has not suffered a lot of LODDs. However we have had them career, volunteer, line firefighters and Chiefs such as Assistant Chief Casale who passed away 44 years ago.

Chief Casale died of a heart attack after suffering smoke inhalation while operating at a house fire.
