As we approach Southington's 247th birthday — just three years shy of America's 250th — it's a good reminder of how much history is tucked away inside 75 Main Street. These pieces offer a glimpse of what we like to call our "more recent" history: a vintage promotional brochure positioning Southington as The Heart of Connecticut, old photographs of town officials, and a collection of letters from 1991 honoring a beloved Town Manager on 25 years of service to this community.

Please avoid the area around Chuck and Eddies on Old Turnpike Road so emergency services can operate safety in the area.

We have closed the transfer station for the remainder of today. It will be back open next weekend.

Notice Regarding Transfer Station Operations: Due to a nearby business fire, the transfer station will be CLOSED effective 9:48am on Saturday, May 30th to ensure public and worker safety and allow emergency responders to operate unimpeded. Operations will resume next week.

Route 10 Traffic Signal Modernization Public Meeting June 2

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host a virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss a $9 million modernization of the Route 10 traffic signal corridor.

Scope: Full equipment replacement at 9 intersections from Flanders Street to Old Turnpike Road.

Safety/Tech: New fiber optic timing for better traffic flow and upgraded pedestrian safety features.

Timeline: Construction is projected for Fall 2027.

This project is 100% state-funded, meaning these infrastructure improvements will be completed at no direct cost to Southington taxpayers.

One thing that often goes unnoticed is the work happening underground before the paving crews ever arrive. The Town of Southington replaces/repairs hundreds of catch basins each year to make sure our roads, drainage systems, and overall infrastructure stay strong and reliable.

These improvements help prevent flooding, extend the life of our roads, and make paving projects more effective long-term. It’s not always the most visible work, but it’s some of the most important.

Investing in infrastructure today means safer roads and better neighborhoods for years to come. Thank you to the Public Works crew for putting in the work every season to keep Southington moving forward.

Quantum Organics ribbon cutting✂️ to celebrate the grand opening of their brand new bagging facility in Southington was a huge success!

Quantum Organics is CT’s first commercial food waste recycling facility that uses anaerobic digestion turning waste into renewable energy♻️

This marks a milestone for our community and many people have worked hard to bring this project to fruition. It was an honor to speak at this event!

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will be conducting roadside vegetation management from May through August 2026 along major highways and state roads. This work includes targeted herbicide application around guiderails, signs, and barriers to maintain roadway safety.

Additional spot treatments for invasive species will take place from mid-August through November. In certain areas—especially near watercourses—CTDOT will use alternative methods such as Foamstream and AquaPro systems. The Foamstream treatment uses a biodegradable, non-herbicidal foam made from plant-based ingredients including coconut oil, wheat, potato, and grape seed oils. This foam acts as a thermal blanket, allowing high-temperature steam to pe*****te and destroy weeds down to the root without the use of traditional herbicides.

Travel impacts are expected to be minimal, as this work uses a moving traffic pattern. All products utilized are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, with additional precautions taken near wetlands and other sensitive areas.

🚁 Notice: Eversource Aerial Inspections

Eversource will be conducting routine aerial inspections of electric transmission line corridors in our area today and tomorrow using a helicopter.

These patrols help identify potential issues with the high-voltage system and are an important part of maintaining reliability and preparing for severe weather.

Residents may see or hear a low-flying helicopter during this time. This is expected activity, and no action is required.
