Tomorrow is the big day! We are excited for the Class of 2026 as they take the next steps into their future!

As the celebrating begins, please remember: the CT Social Host Law makes homeowners fully responsible for any alcohol use by minors on their property, even if they are not aware of it.

A huge congratulations to Katie Cavanaugh, one of our Youth Peer Advocates, for being named an IKEA Student Community Champion through the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference! 🎉 This award honors student-athletes who make a positive impact on their schools and communities through leadership, service, and character - qualities that Katie demonstrates every day.

Her leadership in advocating for stronger restrictions on kratom is a great example. We are proud that those efforts contributed to kratom being classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in Connecticut.

Congratulations, Katie, on this well-deserved recognition!

Thank you to Mohegan Sun for recognizing our Youth Gambling Awareness Project video as your top pick! Unfortunately we were not able to attend the recent fox61news Student News Awards, but our members loved seeing this giant check at our final Youth Council meeting. Our oldest Youth Council members are honored to share in this $5,000 scholarship award!

The fondest farewell to our STEPS Outreach Coordinator, Kristin Sandler. Thank YOU for everything!

This week SHS hosted two groups of incoming freshmen for eighth grade transition days, a valuable pre-high school experience that STEPS is proud to support!

Today we sat in on the “day in the life of a 9th grader” presentation by Ms. Reynolds and a panel of class of 2029 leaders - including Raquel from
STEPS Youth Council! The students had sound advice for the soon-to-be high schoolers:

🗣️ Advocate for yourself
❓ Ask questions
🌟 Don’t be afraid to try new things
🤝 Be willing to meet new people

Our books are packed and they’re ready to go! What books? Our STEPS ABC year-end memory books of course!

These books give all 2,394 students in grades K-5 the chance to reflect on a the past nine months of learning new skills for understanding their feelings, making good choices, and handling tough situations in a positive way!

Once they complete their books, everyone gets a certificate of awesomeness - because that’s what these kids are!

Lots of excitement on our second day at YMCA Camp Sloper Outdoor Center as fifth graders ready to enter jfkms06479 gathered for their Transition Day! Mr. Halloran started the day with great advice: “Be open minded, be kind, make some new friends, and have fun!”.

In the words of Too Tall Tom, “Not too often do you get a first chance to do something, so why not put your best foot forward?” Great advice for our JAD-bound fifth graders who were at YMCA Camp Sloper Outdoor Center for their Transition Day yesterday!
