Southgate was built during a time when Downriver was growing fast and when factory workers, small business owners, and young families came here looking for stability, opportunity, and a place to call home.

What started as farmland became a city filled with neighborhood pride, Friday night lights, family-owned businesses, and generations of people who stayed because this community mattered to them.

Southgate’s story isn’t just about the past, it’s about protecting the kind of community where families still want to build a future.

Southgate deserves a future worth passing down.

Tonight showed that the people of Allen Park are paying attention.

I was proud to stand alongside the residents who came out and voiced their concerns regarding the proposed data center project.

The turnout, the passion, and the demand for answers sent a clear message: our community wants transparency, accountability, and a seat at the table.

While the preliminary site plan was not denied tonight, it was postponed, a decision that left many residents frustrated and angry after passionately expressing their opposition.

No matter where you stand on the project, one thing is clear: the voices of Allen Park, Melvindale Lincoln Park residents matter, and they deserve to be heard before major decisions are made that could impact our neighborhoods, infrastructure, environment, and future.

This conversation is far from over.
