On December 6, the 858th Movement Control Team held a Family Readiness Day during the December Battle Assembly.

Soldiers and Families received valuable resources and support from Ms. Summer Harris (88th Family Programs), MAJ Keith Black (9th Legal Operations Detachment), and Mr. Lowery S. Guynes (TRICARE East). Topics included mobilization prep, OPSEC, legal assistance, and healthcare benefits.

Today, we pause to honor the brave service members who were taken as Prisoners of War and those still Missing In Action. 🇺🇸

Their sacrifice and courage will never be forgotten.

📍 Mackinac Island, MI | Staff Ride & Leader Development 🇺🇸

As part of Operation Smoking Thunder, COL Latchaw and the staff conducted a staff ride on Mackinac Island that consisted of a foot march that blended history, endurance, and tactical insight.

Soldiers completed a foot march from Fort Holmes (known as Fort George during the War of 1812) down to the British Landing, studying one of the earliest battles of the war. In July 1812, British forces landed at this shoreline, moved artillery to the island’s high ground, and compelled the U.S. at Fort Mackinac to surrender creating an enduring lesson in terrain, initiative, and surprise.

Fort Holmes (formerly Fort George): Built by the British on Mackinac’s highest point to dominate key approaches; renamed by the United States after 1815 in honor of Maj. Andrew Hunter Holmes.

British Landing: The historic north-shore site where British forces came ashore in 1812, maneuvered to the heights near today’s Fort Holmes/Fort George site, and seized the advantage.

Walking that ground connected today’s leaders to timeless principles, reinforcing why we study the past to train, fight, and lead better in the present.

📍 Camp Grayling, MI | Operation Smoking Thunder 💥

The 645th Regional Support Group and its subordinate units recently wrapped up a high-impact Field Training Exercise (FTX) at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, sharpening warfighting skills and building readiness for future missions. From crew-served weapons qualifications on the M240, M249, M17, and M4, to convoy operations lanes, a Mass Medical Event (MME), and a Building Strong and Ready Teams (BSRT) event, Soldiers trained side-by-side in every domain of sustainment.

This multi-day exercise pushed units to shoot, move, and communicate under realistic conditions improving marksmanship, testing communications systems, and reinforcing the teamwork required for mobilizations and upcoming missions. It also boosted medical readiness across the formation.

💪 With 10 units participating, including transportation companies, quartermaster detachments, field feeding teams, and command elements. The 645th RSG showcased what it means to be combat ready.

📅 September is Su***de Prevention Month

A time to raise greater awareness of the resources available to Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members who may need crisis support or who want to help someone they know.

The Army’s 2025 theme is: “We Are Stronger Together. Connect to Protect.” This message highlights how strong, positive relationships can counter su***de risk. Staying connected builds belonging, encourages healthy coping, and creates the support network we all need in difficult times.

🤝 Connect and reconnect, it could be a simple call or text that saves a life.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please dial 988.

We kicked off our four-day field training exercise with a full day of training. Soldiers went to the range for weapons qualification and later participated in a class led by our Chaplains focused on building stronger communication skills.

From sharpening marksmanship to strengthening teamwork, today was about developing both technical and personal readiness. 💪🎯

Hot off the press, the previous ACFT exemption for body composition made it to the new AFT!

Just like the last exemption, Soldiers must score over 80 in each event and have a minimum score (now 465).

Soldiers from the 180th TC, 401st TC, 182nd TC, and 919th ICTC joined allied partners during Northern Strike 25-2, Michigan’s largest annual training exercise.

Over two weeks, Soldiers executed 52 missions, trained on the trucks and trailers, palletized load systems, fuel trucks, conducted UAV and crew-served weapons training, and completed advanced courses to sharpen readiness.

The 919th ICTC also operated the Enhanced Container Handling Unit (ECHU) at Camp Grayling by moving vital supplies such as fuel, ammunition, food, water, and medical equipment.

💪 Together, these sustainers proved their readiness, adaptability, and commitment to supporting the joint reserve force and our allies.
