Little ones can tumble, bounce and build confidence this fall!

Tumble Bunnies gymnastics programs begin Wednesday, September 16, with age-appropriate movement, tumbling, stretching and balance activities for children ages 1½–7.

Choose from:
• Itty Bitty Bunnies, ages 1½–3
• Bizzy Bunnies, ages 3–4
• Happy Hoppers, ages 5–7

Registration deadline: Tuesday, September 15.

Knit, purl and give back!

The Giving Stitch brings crafters together to create homemade hats, blankets and comfort items for hospital patients and other community members who could use a little extra warmth.

The group meets Tuesday evenings from 5–7 PM through November 17 at the Southfield Parks & Recreation Building.

Come meet fellow crafters, work on a project and help make a difference in the community.

Recommended for ages 12+. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver for participants under 18 on their first day.

You guessed Carpenter Lake all those other weeks...was this finally the week? 😄

This week's Name That Park is Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve!

Here's something you may not know about the park: Carpenter Lake is approximately 5 acres in surface area and was created when the Ravines Branch of the Rouge River was dammed in the 1940s to provide water for cattle.

When the City later acquired the property, the original dam had partially failed and needed to be removed. The dam you see today was designed to accommodate 100-year storm events.

Even the parking lot plays a role in protecting the preserve. Its central bioswale helps filter pollutants from stormwater runoff and slows the water before it reaches nearby streams, helping reduce flooding and pollution in the Rouge River.

Today, Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve offers wooded trails, lake views and the distinctive Boulder Garden featured in today's reveal.

Play ball at Civic Center Park!

The City of Southfield and Lawrence Technological University celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated softball field at Civic Center Park today!

The City's lighted softball field has been transformed with a new AstroTurf playing surface and other improvements to become the home field of the LTU Blue Devils Women's Softball Team.

LTU President Dr. Tarek M. Sobh, Southfield Mayor Ken Siver and City Administrator Fred Zorn helped mark the occasion before representatives from the City and university officially cut the ribbon.

The partnership brings a new home to LTU Softball while also expanding recreational opportunities right here in Southfield. Following the college softball season, the field will become available beginning in May for City of Southfield Parks & Recreation softball and baseball programs.

And it didn't take long for the new field to see some action! Following the ceremony, the Blue Devils took the field for practice before the LTU Marching Band led the celebration toward the Municipal Campus for LTU in Southfield Day and Eat to the Beat.

Here's to a new home field for the Blue Devils and many seasons of softball and baseball at Civic Center Park!

With more than 30 years of competitive tennis experience, Coach Johnny Montgomery brings extensive experience in youth and adult athletic development to Southfield.

Fall lessons begin next week with options for:
🎾 Youth Beginners -Tuesdays, 6-6:50 PM
🎾 Adult Beginners – Tuesdays, 7-7:50 PM
🎾 Quick Start, ages 4–6 – Saturdays, 9-9:50 AM

Our new Youth Volleyball Clinic gives kids ages 7–14 a chance to build their skills, learn the game and have fun on the court.

Open to ages 7–14 and all skill levels, from beginner to advanced!
Saturdays, September 19–November 21
Beech Woods Recreation Center
🏐 Ages 7–10: 3–3:50 PM
🏐 Ages 11–14: 4–4:50 PM

Players will work on progressive skill development, competitive play readiness and even tryout preparation, all while building teamwork along the way.
