The Town of Southbury participates in the Connecticut State Police Resident Trooper Program to provide police services to the town. Kyle Rapp supervises the resident trooper program in town. Four Police Corporals and seventeen patrol officers respond to all police emergencies within town. These officers are full-time officers, certified by the Connecticut Police Academy and have received specializ

ed training in such areas as accident reconstruction, DARE, crime prevention techniques, and criminal investigation techniques.

Traffic Advisory – Road Closure Reminder
Strongtown Road near the intersection of Munn Road remains closed due to ongoing construction, with local traffic only restrictions in place.

Please be advised:

Munn Road is designated as “No Thru Trucks”
All truck traffic should use Exit 15 as the designated alternate route.

On Tuesday, April 7, several members of the Southbury Police Department and the Southbury Emergency Communications Center received commendation medals in recognition of their response to a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus that occurred in the Town of Southbury on February 11, 2026.

The awards were presented by Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield during a ceremony held in the Town of Prospect, as the school bus involved was transporting students from Region 14. The ceremony included representatives from all emergency service agencies that responded to the incident.

On 04/04/2026 at approximately 1135 hours, Southbury Police responded to Newtown Savings Bank, 685 Main Street South for an individual that was actively attempting to commit Identity Theft and Fraud. After arrival on scene and investigation, Southbury Police took Malik Bennett ( DOB 06/06/2000) of Bronx, NY into custody. Bennett was charged with Criminal Impersonation, 53a-130, Forgery 1st Degree, 53a-138, Criminal Attempt at Larceny 2nd Degree, 53a-123, Identity Theft 1st Degree, 53a-129b and Forgery 3rd Degree, 53a-140. In addition, Southbury Police discovered that Bennett had an active arrest warrant for Failure to Appear 1st Degree. Bennett failed to post a total of $125,000.00 in bonds and is scheduled to appear before Waterbury Superior Court on 04/06/2026 at 0900 hours.

📍 Main Street North (southbound lanes), between Main Street South and the I‑84 Exit 15 westbound on‑ramp

This checkpoint is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to reducing impaired driving and enhancing roadway safety throughout the Town of Southbury. The enforcement initiative is supervised by the Southbury Police Department and funded through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation OUI Enforcement Program.
