Once again we are truly overwhelmed by the amazing community we serve. Our annual food drive to benefit the Southbury Food Bank in collaboration with the Southbury Police Department was a huge success! We FILLED the ambulance more than three times! Your generosity and support will have such a wonderful impact on the families who utilize the Southbury Food Bank. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Ron Faanes and Bill Josiger from The Fairfield League of Yankee Radio Controllers presented Chief Geralyn Hoyt with a donation to Southbury Ambulance Association. FLYRC, a chartered member ( #803) of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), has been an established local model radio control flying club for over 50 years and follows the AMA safety code and has a very detailed set of field and safety rules. Recognized as a “Gold Leader Club”, FLYRC flies an assortment of planes ranging from very small foam electric powered (weighing only 6oz) to larger balsa wood models with fuel (alcohol or gasoline) engines, on average weighing 6 to 14lbs. Their strong community outreach program started as a local High School Build & Fly program evolved into a “Principle of Flight” program. Students fly small gliders & launch their rockets outside, fly mini helicopters and fly on a several computer flight simulator inside the gym. This program has been conducted at local Elementary Schools for the last several years. FLYRC sponsors an annual flying day for the Danbury Civil Air Patrol Cadets and holds a joint RC Swap meet with the New Milford Model Airplane Club, donating the gate proceeds to charity, first two years to Ukrainian Relief and the last two years to the Southbury Ambulance.
Currently the league has about 65 full time members and several junior members with a good cross section of technical and non-technical folks who are dedicated to the construction and flying of radio control aircraft with comradeship and friendship. Everyone is welcome to join the organization without bias to race, religion or creed.
For more information you can visit the new web site at flyrc.org or contact Bill Josiger at [email protected]  or 845-821-3269

National EMS Week is Sunday May 18th through Saturday May 25- a week to recognize and celebrate our local EMS professionals. We honor and give gratitude to the first responders for their commitment and dedication to our community. The 2025 theme “WE CARE. FOR EVERYONE” is a concept Southbury Ambulance (SAA) strives to live by daily and concisely summarizes the service provided by Southbury EMS 24/7 365 days. Emergency medical care begins with a 9 1 1 call to the Southbury Dispatch Center who dispatches the SPD and SAA to provide on-scene care and efficient transport to local area hospitals. Emergency Medical Service is an integral and essential piece of the National Healthcare System. In the past 12 months, SAA has responded to 475 heart-related calls and has had several CPR saves.

“I am thrilled that EMS and their day-to-day life-saving skills are honored for a specific week on a national level.” states Geralyn Hoyt / President Southbury Ambulance. Please join me in thanking all EMS personnel and acknowledge the indispensable service provided, the training and certifications maintained, and their compassion and dedicated service.

For information on volunteering with SAA, check out our website www.southburyambulanceassociation.org; Friend us on Facebook; Call 203 262 8082 or make an appointment to stop in for a visit.
