Bring the whole family out for an evening of stories, treats, learning, and community fun! Families, staff, and community members are invited to decorate their trunks with a favorite children’s book, author, character, or literacy theme.

🚗 Trunk Decoration: 5:30 p.m.
⏰ Event: 6:00–7:00 p.m.
📍 Swans Creek Bus Loop
Trunk hosts can read a favorite story, hand out candy or non-food treats, or combine storytelling and treats! Children are welcome to dress as their favorite book character, community helper, favorite animal, or simply wear comfortable fall attire. 🍁
💙 Participation is completely optional.

Red Ribbon & Anti-Bullying Spirit Week starts TOMORROW, October 23! 🎉

We’re excited for a fun week of spirit days focused on kindness, positive choices, and standing together against drugs and bullying.

Tomorrow, students can dress as their favorite superhero or positive character for “Be a Hero for Kindness!” 🦸

📚💙 Help Us Grow the Swan’s Creek Elementary Library! 💙📚
We’re excited to host an ongoing Library Book Drive throughout the school year! If you have gently used books at home that your family has outgrown, consider giving them a new home at Swan’s Creek. 🦉📖
Adult and children’s books are welcome! Books that can be used in our library will be added to our collection, and books we can’t use will be traded in at McKay’s to help us get books our students need.

We really have the best staff here at Swans Creek! Thank you Lauren Rucker for all you do in our music program!

Help me congratulate Lauren Rucker, our 2026 Dumfries Elementary School Teacher of the Year! 🎻👏🏾

For the past 17 years, Lauren has introduced fifth-grade students at Dumfries Elementary to the joy of music — often beginning with something as simple as teaching a child how to open an instrument case.

By the end of the year, those same students are playing beautiful music together.

And then something even more special happens.

Years later, the younger brothers and sisters show up.

Families return.

Another child gets their turn.

That is more than teaching.

That is legacy.

Lauren has become part of the story of generations of Dumfries families, helping young people build confidence, discipline, creativity, teamwork, and a love for music that can stay with them for life.

We are proud to honor her at the 2026 Mayor’s Ball & Community Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 PM.

🦢So proud of our Swan-tastic Teacher!!!

If Shannon Speights has ever encouraged your child, supported a teacher, strengthened a classroom, served your family, or made Swans Creek Elementary better — this is your chance to show up for her.

On Saturday, October 17, we will honor Shannon as the 2026 Mayor’s Ball Swans Creek Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

For 20 years, Shannon has poured into children and educators across Prince William County. She grew up in this community, was educated in this community, and chose to build her life around giving back to this community.

Now we get to give some of that love back.

Awards mean more when the people whose lives were touched are in the room.

So don’t just congratulate Shannon online.
