Here are some highlights from last night’s meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen:
Finance Director Caleb Flowers presented a balanced FY27 budget prior to the Public Hearing; Special Meeting for Budget Adoption is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026
Governmental transfer of a Police Department van to the Town of Walls
Planning Agenda, 4 items – all approved
• MZX Tech request to combine two separate parcels of property at Stanton west of Tulane
• MZX Tech Design Review for industrial data storage warehouse with landscaping and fencing
• Design Review for three-tenant retail building on the north side of Goodman, west of Malone
• Restaurant to be located south of Silo Square
Mayor’s Report
• Southaven partnering with SpaceXAI is a trailblazer in the US regarding Artificial Intelligence;
will continue working with acoustical engineers to mitigate the noise issue;
SpaceXAI is starting a PR campaign to present information to the public on data centers
• We recently hosted our largest soccer tournament with 123 soccer teams
• The Cherry Valley Park Renovation is complete:
Football fields with newly painted goalposts and scoreboard;
Walking trail, pump track and skate park, updated playground equipment, and newly painted buildings and repaved parking lot with new striping;
Security measures to preserve park and prevent vandalism:
Security gates, Security cameras, new lighting, fencing
Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Citizens are welcome to attend in person, and we also have livestream available.
