Sunday afternoon of Labor Day weekend proves to be busy for South Windsor Fire Department members:
Shortly after 3:30pm the SWFD was dispatched to I-291 to assist the South Windsor Police Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester with a medical incident along the path adjacent to the highway between Rt. 5 and the Bissel Bridge.
As the FD was responding, there was an unrelated motor vehicle crash on I-291, west bound, in the same area. Two minor injuries were evaluated and refused transport. The two incidents were handled by Car 19, Squad 2, Fire/Police 9, and Car 10.
At 6:30pm the SWFD as well as South Windsor Police Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester responded to Vibert Road for a UTV crash. Fellow UTV riders transported the injured rider in another UTV and then car, from the crash location in the meadows, along the CT River back to Vibert Road. Pt. was transported by ASM to a local hospital. Car 10, Squad 2 responded.
A very short time later just after 7pm, the SWFD was dispatched to the CT River for a jet-ski crash with a missing person in the river. Car 10, Marine 1, Rescue 5, and Squad 2 responded to the boat launch in Windsor. Car 10 established a Unified Command with Windsor Fire, Windsor Police, SWPD, DEEP, Windsor EMS, Drone Support - Suffield PD, and the CREST Dive team. Marine 1 was deployed with other marine vessels from Windsor Fire and Hartford Police (CREST). As part of the response, Car 15, with UTV1, and Engine 3 responded to Vibert Road and searched along the trails and banks of the CT River. Fire/Police 9 also responded to the Command Post and provided rehab support.
After approx. 4 hours, the rescue search was suspended and will resume in morning.

During the River incident, just before 8pm, Car 14 and E8 responded to a stove fire in a condo unit on Mill Pond Drive. Fire was contained to the stove with no extension.
Just before 10pm, the SWFD was dispatched to a CO incident with Car 19 handling.

The Community is blessed~! While these series of incidents, in a short period of time, and serious in nature, is a not a normal day for the Department, it certainly exemplified the importance of training - training - and more training with extremely professional and dedicated members - Thank you to each and every member that responded.
During all these incidents and with the complexity of multi-agencies, back-to-back incidents, the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and the very talented Dispatchers performed above and beyond! Thank you!
