📵 PAUL MILLER’S LAW NOW IN EFFECT IN PENNSYLVANIA 🚔

The South Williamsport Police Department would like to remind motorists that Pennsylvania’s new hands-free driving law, known as Paul Miller’s Law, is now fully enforceable.

Under this law, drivers may not hold or use a handheld mobile device while operating a motor vehicle. This includes texting, scrolling social media, emailing, dialing phone numbers, or other interactive use of a mobile device. The law applies even when stopped at a traffic signal, in traffic, or during any temporary roadway delay.

Beginning June 5, 2026, violations are punishable by a $50 fine plus court costs and fees. Officers may stop a vehicle solely for a violation of this law.

Paul Miller’s Law is named in memory of Paul Miller Jr., who was killed by a distracted driver in 2010. The goal of the law is simple: reduce distracted driving and save lives.

Before you drive:

✅ Set your GPS before leaving
✅ Use hands-free technology when needed
✅ Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel

No text, call, or notification is worth a life.
