🇺🇸 D-DAY REMEMBRANCE – JUNE 6, 1944 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the men who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

In the face of overwhelming odds, thousands of brave Americans and Allied forces answered the call of duty, forever changing the course of history and securing the freedoms we enjoy today. Their actions on D-Day exemplified selfless service, honor, and a commitment to something greater than themselves.

As the years pass, the number of surviving members of the Greatest Generation grows smaller, but their legacy remains as powerful as ever. We owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to those who fought, those who sacrificed, and those who never came home.

Today, and every day, we remember their bravery. We honor their service. We preserve their legacy.

The South Toms River Police Department is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals ready to join in serving our community. This is for a Part-Time, Waiver eligible, SLEO II Certified Police Officer.

Rate: $23 per hour
Hours: Minimum 30 per week with the possibility of additional specialized details.

Requirements:

At least 18 years old
Must be a United States citizen and a resident of New Jersey
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
Possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Driver's license
Must possess an active, valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) SLEO II certification
Must be able to meet requirements for PTC Licensing
Must be able to pass pre-employment background

We're getting close to the end of the school year and after a short hiatus, we were able to get out and enjoy the weather the last 2 days with Mrs. Legotte's 3rd grade class and Ms. Lash's 4th grade class! It's great seeing the teams work together and the competitive spirit come through! Hard to believe that school will be done in 2 weeks, finish up strong students!

🚨 BOROUGH OF SOUTH TOMS RIVER OEM ALERT 🚨

🚨🚨🚨🚨UPDATE WATER IS RESTORED as of 07:03am 🚨🚨🚨🚨

Residents in the Dover Road / Flint Road / Center Street / Mill Street area may currently be experiencing a water service disruption or low water pressure due to an unplanned water main outage.

🚧 Veolia Water crews are currently on scene making emergency repairs. Crews are working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

Residents in the affected area are advised to:

💧 Conserve water usage until service is restored
🚱 Avoid running washing machines, dishwashers, or other high-demand appliances
⚠️ If water appears discolored after service returns, run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until clear
🥤 Keep bottled water available for drinking and essential needs
🔥 If you observe a significant loss of pressure or any roadway flooding, report it immediately

Please use caution while traveling through the area due to utility crews and equipment operating in the roadway.

At this time, there is no estimated restoration time available. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

On this Memorial Day, we pause not for barbecues or long weekends, but for remembrance. We honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country — sacrifices made so future generations could live in freedom.

Their courage was not just in how they fought, but in what they were willing to give up: birthdays missed, families left behind, futures never lived. Memorial Day is a reminder that freedom carries a cost paid by heroes we must never forget.

Today, may we remember their names, reflect on their sacrifice, and live in a way that honors their legacy.

It is an honor for South Toms River to be the Jersey Shore Base of the United States Submarine Veterans and our department is grateful to attend their service every Memorial Day at Mathis Plaza.
