Behind the scenes at the San Bruno–South San Francisco Water Quality Control Plant, crews are performing digester cleaning, an essential maintenance activity that removes accumulated solids from treatment tanks.

This proactive work improves process efficiency, reduces the risk of equipment failure, and extends the life of critical infrastructure. It also increases recycled biogas production, which is used to generate energy onsite, offsetting approximately 25% of the plant’s energy use, or about $250,000 annually.

These efforts directly support regulatory compliance while helping control operating costs and keep rates as low as possible for our community. Learn more about our Water Quality Control Plant by visiting www.ssfca.gov/WQCP

♻️ Is it REALLY recyclable?

Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs, and clamshell containers made from #1, #2, or #5 plastic belong in your blue recycling bin. Think water bottles, milk jugs, yogurt tubs, and berry containers.

🚫 Plastic cups, utensils, plates, and mixed-material plastics do NOT belong in the blue bin — even if they have a recycling symbol.

When in doubt, remember:
✔️ Rigid #1, #2, or #5 containers = recycle
❌ Everything else = gray garbage bin

Recycling right matters more than recycling more! 💙
