Betty Battaglia 🌻
We join our community in mourning the loss of Commissioner Betty Battaglia, a respected leader and cherished member of our South San Francisco Parks and Recreation family.
A longtime resident and Parks and Recreation Commissioner since 2013, Betty was a passionate advocate for parks, seniors, youth, and inclusive community spaces. Her thoughtful leadership influenced landmark projects like the Library | Parks and Recreation Center and the new Aquatic Center, ensuring they would serve residents of all ages for generations to come. Betty, in her collaborative way, championed for us to look at programs and facilities through an age-friendly lens, even well before we and others had an Age-Friendly Master Plan. Beyond her many accomplishments, Betty will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others. Whether volunteering at community events, supporting staff, or simply sharing homemade cookies, she made everyone feel welcome and valued.
Betty’s legacy of service, compassion, and community spirit will continue to inspire us. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, fellow commissioners, and all whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
