We may be a couple days late, but a birthday this important deserves to be celebrated!

K9 Doug turned 4 years old this past Friday!

When he’s not at work, Doug enjoys the finer things in life like treats, scratches, and being told he’s a very good boy.

Help us wish K9 Doug a happy 4th birthday!

****Update-all clear as of 1pm***

Morning South St. Paul! Our partners with South Metro Fire are currently working a compromised gas line near Marie Avenue and 13th Avenue North and a few residences are being asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure. Please give our responders room to work as we secure the area until Xcel Energy can get this shut down for us.

School is back in session, which means more kids and families are walking, biking, and crossing streets throughout our community.

As you head out, remember: crosswalk safety takes everyone. Pedestrians should make their intention to cross, and drivers should stay stopped until the crosswalk is completely clear.

On August 30, 1933, Patrolman Leo Pavlak of the South St. Paul Police Department was killed in the line of duty while protecting our community. Today marks 93 years since his end of watch.

He was 38 years old, a husband, and father of two daughters.

We remember Patrolman Pavlak’s sacrifice and honor him as part of our department’s history. His service and courage will never be forgotten.

Our Summer Camp kids had some great questions for City staff this summer!

First up, two of our campers sit down with South St. Paul Police Chief Brian Wicke. You’ll want to hear what they asked!

School is right around the corner, and we’re excited to introduce two familiar faces who will be spending plenty of time in South St. Paul Public Schools this year: School Resource Officers Cavalier and Keding!

Our School Resource Officers work closely with students, staff and families throughout the school year. Along with helping keep our schools safe, they’re there to build relationships, answer questions and be a resource for the school community.

If you see Officer Cavalier or Officer Keding in the halls this year, be sure to say hello!

We hope all South St. Paul students, families and staff have a great start to the school year.

Good Evening South St. Paul! Earlier this morning, Jacob John Audie, 37, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of the premediate first-degree murder of Michael Schille inside of his residence in April of 2025.

Our hearts go out to the extended Schille family for their unimaginable loss and while nothing will fill the void he left, we hope the sentence handed down today will help to begin the healing process.

Thank you to the men and women of this department who serve this community daily for your tireless work supporting victims of crime, and to our partners with the Dakota County Attorney's Office for holding this offender accountable.
