HAPPENING TOMORROW - "Cram the Cruiser" food drive in support of the South River Food Bank

The South River Food Bank is seeing an increased need for assistance. In order to help them continue to assist residents in need, the South River Police Department is hosting a “Cram the Cruiser” food drive to help keep their shelves stocked.

Donations of non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations will be accepted in front of South River Police Headquarters (61 Main Street) on tomorrow, November 5th between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

When arriving, pull up in front of Police Headquarters. We'll be on hand to assist you from there.

Suggested items for donation include: peanut butter, jelly, pasta, canned tuna, meals in a can (soup, stew, chili), pork & beans, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta sauce, baking mixes, canned meats, meal mixes (hamburger helper etc.), nuts, rice-a-roni, trail mixes, oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, sugar, powdered milk, and any packaged, non-perishable food items.

If you can’t make our food drive but would like to support the South River Food Bank, donations can be dropped off at the South River Food Bank (98 Jackson Street) during the following times:

- Saturdays: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
- Tuesdays: 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
- Tuesdays: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
- Wednesdays: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

For safety reasons, they are unable to accept donations left outside of the building at any other time.

Thank you to everyone who came out and showed your support for the South River Municipal Alliance at our Cruisin’ for a Cause car show last night. It was a huge success! Also, a special thank you to our friends at the South River Police Department for all of their assistance with our event. Congratulations to the vehicle owners who took home trophies. All proceeds go towards a great cause in community policing, drug, alcohol and violence awareness / prevention programs in South River. We wouldn’t be able to run many of these programs and events without your support. See you all again at next year’s show!

HAPPENING TOMORROW! Tomorrow, September 15th, "Cruisin' for a Cause" returns to Main Street in downtown South River! Join us from 5:00pm - 9:00pm for music, food, fun, and plenty of vehicles on display all while supporting a good cause for the South River community. The event is free to the public with food available for purchase. All downtown businesses will be open during the show. Please note - bicycles, scooters or skateboards are not permitted to be utilized at the show.

Due to this event, Main Street will be closed between Reid Street and Jackson Street from approximately 4:30pm until approximately 9:30pm. Traffic travelling over the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge into South River from Sayreville will be detoured onto Reid Street. Traffic travelling the opposite direction on Main Street will be detoured at Jackson Street. In addition, parking restrictions will be in place leading up to the event. Please follow any posted no parking signs.

Interested in showing off your vehicle? All makes, models, years and styles are welcome. There is a registration fee of $10 per vehicle which can be paid when arriving the night of the show. There is no need to pre-register. Trophies will be awarded to the best vehicles!
