Often times firefighters are referred to as "The Bravest". This evening all three companies of the South River Fire Department had the honor of paying a visit to a young man who epitomizes the definition of "Bravest". Faced with a serious and challenging illness, your courage, bravery and spirit are an inspiration to us all. We only hope that our short visit with you today brightened your day, made you feel better, and made you happy! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue your fight. We are proud to call you our friend!!! Get better soon, and we look forward to the day that you can officially join our ranks, and you can continue to inspire future generations to come!!!

It's like finding a long lost relative that you thought had passed away! This is a former SRFD engine which was known as Blue 3. It went into service with Reliable Fire Company and then became the first engine for Summit Engine Company after we were formed. Specifically, it is a 1956 American LaFrance 700 series. On its final journey out of town in the early 1980's, after being replaced, the engine blew and it had to be towed. It's whereabouts became a mystery until recently. It was found on a farm where it was being preserved by a private owner. It was then donated to the NJ Fire Museum where it is currently being restored to its former glory by dedicated members such as Charlie Barnes, who graciously provided us with these photos! On a side note, please visit and support the NJ Fire Museum so that they can continue to give new life to old retired fire apparatus!!!
