Hot and dry conditions are forecast today over much of the Northland. Afternoon RH values will be in the 20-35% range. Portions of northeast Minnesota from the Brainerd Lakes to the Canadian border will see RH values of 20-25%. In those conditions fires may spread easily this afternoon and early evening.

Tuesday, May 19, 2026: the WI DNR has lowered the fire danger to LOW and has been there since Monday, May 18, 2026. While the cooler temps and rain has helped, we still could be close, if not back to, where we were a few days ago. Especially if we have several warm air temperature days, low humidity, and no rain.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this evening into early tonight, from central Minnesota east into northwest Wisconsin. Main hazards will be large hail to quarter size and damaging winds to 60 mph. Have multiple ways to receive warning information.
