In honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month, our team attended the Brain Injury Conference at the Augusta Armory this past week.

This training deepened our understanding of neurodiversity, including both innate and acquired experiences, and the importance of nervous system-informed care.

Neurodivergence is not a deficit. It reflects the natural diversity of the human brain.

When we shift from judgment to understanding, and from correction to support, we create space for meaningful healing, regulation, and connection.

Support Labs for Nervous System Regulation are here 💟🧠🫀

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, wired, exhausted, emotionally reactive, or just “on” all the time, this space is for you.

At Art of Awareness, our biweekly Support Labs are one-hour guided experiences designed to help regulate your nervous system through:

• Gentle somatic practices (movement, breath, sensory awareness)
• Simple, accessible nervous system education
• Creative expression (no pressure, no perfection)
• Time for reflection and connection

When the nervous system is regulated, it becomes easier to think clearly, sleep better, regulate emotions, and connect with others.

Everything is invitational. No prior experience required. Attend in-person or online.

Trauma doesn’t only live in memory.
It shapes beliefs about safety, trust, responsibility, and control.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based trauma treatment that helps clients identify and gently examine the beliefs that can keep them feeling stuck after traumatic experiences, often without realizing it.

Rather than pushing emotional flooding or forced reframes, CPT emphasizes:
• Meaning-making with safety and structure
• Compassionate, guided questioning
• Flexibility across trauma types, identities, and neurodivergent needs

When trauma-related beliefs soften, many clients experience reduced emotional intensity, less hypervigilance, and greater choice in how they respond to the world.

This post is drawn from an Art of Awareness clinical training on Cognitive Processing Therapy facilitated by our fantastic clinician Nicolas Blackman, LMSW-CC, and reflects our ongoing commitment to ethical, evidence-based trauma care.

This educational content is drawn from a recent clinical training facilitated for the Art of Awareness team by Kiley Fine, LCPC-C, focused on perinatal mental health and trauma-informed care during pregnancy and the postpartum year. The material integrates current clinical research on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, alongside a systemic and equity-informed lens that acknowledges the impact of trauma history, social determinants of health, and structural inequities on perinatal experiences.

The perinatal period, pregnancy through one year postpartum, is a time of profound physical, emotional, and relational change. While often spoken about as a joyful season, it can also bring vulnerability, anxiety, identity shifts, and mental health challenges that deserve understanding and support.

At Art of Awareness, we are committed to ongoing clinical education that strengthens our capacity to offer thoughtful, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care. If any of the themes shared here resonate with your experience, support is available.

To learn more or to seek care, please visit our website (link in bio) and complete a new client referral form. Our team will thoughtfully review your submission and follow up with next steps.

Thank you for taking the time to read this amazing content developed by Kiley ❤️.

🧠Upcoming Workshop: Emotional Resilience for TBI & PTSD Recovery
January 23rd | 3–5 PM | Hybrid (In-Person or Virtual)
Recovery from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress is complex, nonlinear, and deeply personal. This workshop is designed to honor that complexity while offering accessible, evidence-informed practices to support participants in cultivating stability, connection, and emotional balance.

• Creative expression as a pathway for integration and meaning-making
• Vagus-nerve toning techniques to support resilience and restorative functioning
This space welcomes adults in any stage of TBI/PTSD recovery, as well as caregivers, providers, and community members seeking to better understand and support these healing processes. All bodies, identities, and lived experiences are recognized and valued here.

11/18/2025

Grief is not just about loss, it’s about change.
It shows up in relationships, identity, health, safety, and even within our work and communities. There truly is no “right” way to grieve.

Our experience of grief is shaped by the systems we live in, from our closest relationships to workplace policies, cultural expectations, and the support available to us. When we recognize these layers, we can respond with deeper compassion for ourselves and others.

💛Our wish is for all people to not feel the need to “get over” grief, but to move through it at one’s own pacing with care and support.

Clinical education content by our incredible Samantha Mitchell, LCPC-c, who facilitated this information at our most recent training at Art of Awareness.
