Cumberland County Children's Advocacy Center

Cumberland County Children's Advocacy Center The Cumberland County CAC models, promotes, and delivers excellence in child abuse response and prevention through service, education, and leadership.

WHO WE ARE
The Cumberland County Children's Advocacy Center (CCCAC) provides a safe, neutral, and child-centered place for the coordinated evaluation of child sexual abuse. A team of professionals, including law enforcement, prosecution, child protection, and medical work together to make decisions about the investigation and management of child sexual abuse cases. Our Services:
- Support Services

: Our Family Advocate provides support to the child, his/her guardian, and the family during their time at the CCCAC, including answering questions about the investigative process, listening to concerns and making referrals for recommended services. The family advocate follows up with the family one week and one month following the interview to offer any additional support that may be needed.

- Forensic Interview: A trained forensic interview specialist asks the child questions about the alleged abuse while team members observe remotely. The child protective social worker will assess the immediate safety of the child and the law enforcement investigator and assistant district attorney will determine if a crime has been committed.

- Medical Evaluation: The child has access to a specialized, non-invasive medical examination available on site at the CCCAC.

- Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC): Abuse may also involve the exploitation or coercion of a youth into sexual activity in exchange for something of value (money, safety, clothing, drug, housing, etc). Our specialized coordinator assists families and youth by facilitating a team of professionals who can prioritize and address the needs of the youth which may include: safety, housing, medical care, mental health treatment, educational support, and/or a forensic interview. WHO WE ARE FOR
CCCAC is for children in Cumberland County who may have experienced sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and/or trafficking.

Denim Day is recognized on the last Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a r**e conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who r**ed her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

Today, we wear denim, along with our community partners throughout Cumberland County, to raise awareness and support survivors.

Don’t forget—Denim Day is coming up April 29th! 💙👖

Join us in wearing denim to show your support for survivors and to stand against victim blaming. What we wear is never an invitation or an excuse for harm—consent is always required.

Whether it’s your favorite jeans, a jacket, or anything denim, your participation helps spark important conversations and shows survivors they are seen, heard, and supported.

Mark your calendar, wear your denim, and stand with us. 💙

The Cumberland County CAC was lucky enough to work with Heather and have her as a member of our Advisory Board during her time at the DOJ. Such a well-deserved acknowledgement of her dedicated career working with survivors. 💙

When people hear “sexual violence,” they often picture one very specific situation.

But the reality is much broader than that.

Sexual violence can look like unwanted sexual contact, someone pressuring or coercing another person, sexual harassment, or ignoring someone’s boundaries.

It can also happen online — through grooming, exploitation, or the creation and sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

And most of the time, it doesn’t involve strangers. It often happens between people who know each other — friends, partners, classmates, coworkers, or people someone meets online.

Because it doesn’t always look the way people expect, it can be harder to recognize or talk about.

But understanding the full picture is one of the ways we can support survivors and build safer communities.

Prevention starts with all of us.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month — a time to come together to support children, strengthen families, and raise awareness about the power of prevention.

Join us this April as we work together to build stronger families and brighter futures.

Here are simple ways you can help:

🔹Wear blue to spark conversations about child abuse prevention.
🔹Display pinwheels by planting or sharing a pinwheel garden.
🔹Share resources that promote education, support, and connection for families in our community.

Together, we can create a safe, nurturing community where children and families thrive. 💙
