One of our press contacts sent DHS several emails today to either confirm or contest Project NINJA's reports of ICE using the warehouse as a temporary detention facility. This is the reply they got. 🤨

Anyone who has seen Joe Labarbera's post history knows that he's unhinged. He's doxxed people and stokes fear and hatred of his political opponents. He's called us the "dark forces at work" here in Sussex County. 🫠

It was no surprise to hear of this incident. What is surprising is his version of events. It doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. 🤨

Unfortunately, being the Sussex GOP chair, he has the power to make the truth go away. But before he starts posting, we want to give the other driver a platform and voice to speak up. 🤝

If that was you and your toddler in the other car, we can help. Being threatened with a firearm is scary and it would be even scarier if that person then used their position to set the narrative to absolve themselves. 😒

Knowing firsthand that Joe Labarbera stretches the truth and outright lies in order to promote himself and his politics, we want to hear the other side and what the courts decide. ⚖️

The letter accuses immigration agents of holding people arrested in a Dover raid inside a warehouse where a federal court order permits only maintenance and security work.

Current County Commissioner Chris Carney is running for County Clerk in November and that's all the proof you need that racism is alive and well in Sussex. 🫠

Back in 2021, they held a candidate forum on the County level and the question was asked, what would you do to make Sussex County more inclusive and welcoming? 🤝

Chris Carney's answer? Nothing. Because according to him, Josh Gottheimer, and County Sherriff Strada, there is no problem. 🙄

This forum was a dumpster fire and yet he still won. He said all of this and STILL WON. He texted a Board of Education member "this bitch doesn't know what she's in for" AND STILL WON. 🤢

THIS is what we're talking about. The voices of black and brown people in this county are ignored. Scott Paul 🇭🇹♊️ lost that race despite being the most sensible candidate. 💔

We've had countless comments and messages from people who live in Sussex County these past few days sharing their stories of the horrible things they've endured here and thanking us for talking about it. 🫂

FIRST acknowledge it. THEN take action. Stop pretending racism doesn't exist and then DO something about it. 😡

Project NINJA has filed a letter with the NJ Attorney General’s office presenting evidence that ICE is illegally using the Roxbury warehouse as a de facto holding and transfer facility.

​This directly violates a May consent order that strictly limits DHS to site maintenance and security while an environmental assessment is completed. Eyewitness accounts, video/photos of vehicles, and detainee reports reveal the facility is actively being used to hold individuals taken during local raids.

​Project NINJA is urging state officials to perform an immediate site visit and enforce court-ordered limits to stop further illegal operations.

This summer, ICE has increased its raids in the northwest region of New Jersey separating dozens of families. The agency has racially profiled individuals waiting for work, kidnapped people from NJ Transit train stations, and pulled over vehicles throughout the state.

Once again, DHS proves that filling for-profit detention centers with the people of New Jersey means more to them than any court order. This taxpayer funded agency must be stopped BEFORE 1500 more people are caged in that warehouse.

Councilman Clark gets a lot of haters. 🫠

But if you look into who hates him and why, you'll find it has a lot to do with him standing up for the people when developers try to build megawarehouses and data centers against the will and best interests of the residents. 💪

Sparta even preemptively banned detention centers as a use for warehouses before Roxbury did (because Roxbury still hasn't 🙄).

Developers are increasingly forcing townships to zone by litigation. "Give us what we want or we'll sue you." Many a planning board & council has found themselves trapped between spending money on costly litigation or sacrifing their town’s green acres to overdevelopment. 😬

But Sparta is choosing differently. They have started the process of opting into the Highlands Regional Master Plan. This is the third option and it will help Sparta fend off unwanted development by bolstering their defenses with science and environmentally sound planning. 🌿🌲⛰️

Join us Thursday, September 17th at 7pm at the Andover Township Municipal building as we demand the town close the warehouse loophole for private detention facilities. 🎤

What is a warehouse loophole? 🤔

That’s when DHS and private prison companies come into unsuspecting towns to buy empty warehouses that they quickly & silently convert into detention centers. They use the industrial zoning of the warehouse to exploit the rules and avoid public hearings. 😒

Towns like Roxbury have know firsthand how much towns lose in these situations. Loss of tax revenue, increased legal counsel fees, loss of home values, decline in business, and the undue burden and stress put on all residents. 🫨

The only way to prevent these detention centers from opening and warehousing our immigrant neighbors is by being proactive. 🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️

Andover Responsible Development did the work for them and sent a draft ordinance similar to what was passed in Sparta. All they have to do is put it on the agenda and vote! 🗳

Help us demand Andover Township close the warehouse loophole to protect our community. 🫶
