Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we gathered to remember and the honor all the civilians and first responders who lost their lives. May we never forget their sacrifice and courage #911

We also remember Sue Kim Hanson, a South Pasadena resident, and her husband Peter and daughter Christine, who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attack.

Congratulations to Officer J. Garcia #233 on graduating from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Academy, Class 244! Our command staff was proud to swear him in and officially welcome him to the team. Wishing him the best of luck and safe shifts ahead as he begins his patrol journey.

This week, our officers had to the opportunity to participate in Active Shooter Training with our partners UCLA Police Department

Utilizing realistic scenario based training, we learned how to effectively and quickly respond to an active shooter incident. In a real life situation, multiple agencies will be responding so collaborating and training with other agencies is essential for preparedness.

A big thank you to UCLA Police Department for hosting us and sharing their time and knowledge with our staff!

To celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, SPPD officers and civilian personnel were authorized to purchase and wear the South Pasadena Police Department Semiquincentennial Badge. Chief Elmore has authorized the wearing of the badge until July 4 of next year. We look forward to celebrating with you during these year’s Independence Day activities!

Congratulations to Corporal Borrello, Officer Gramajo and Detective Jones. They all participated in the 2026 Police and Fire Games, each bringing home numerous medals.

Corporal Borrello did very well in individual and team Frisbee Golf events, bringing home two medals. Officer Gramajo teamed with up Captain Correa of South Pasadena Fire Department , former SPPD Officer Perez and retired Detective Lee for team pistol events. Officer Gramajo did well, bringing home two medals as well. Lastly, Detective Jones competed in numerous shotgun events, winning an incredible fourteen medals. Well done, gentlemen!

Every year, the awards the SPPOA Memorial Scholarships to select graduating seniors. The scholarships are dedicated to fallen members of the South Pasadena Police Department, including Officer Ray Rogers, Officer Kevin Sandoval, and Police Assistant Bayron Salguero.

Tonight, at the Senior Awards Ceremony, the was honored to award scholarships to several outstanding graduates. They are all accomplished individuals with bright futures ahead of them. Congratulations!
