🇺🇸 REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, South Otselic Fire & EMS remembers and honors the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We especially remember the brave firefighters, EMS providers, police officers, and other first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

They made the ultimate sacrifice, leaving behind spouses, children, parents, siblings, friends, and communities who would never see them come home. We also remember the first responders who survived but carried the physical and emotional scars of that day for years afterward.

Their sacrifice did not end when the towers fell. It continued in the days, months, and years that followed.

We honor their courage.
We honor their service.
We honor their families.
And we will NEVER FORGET.

As our younger OV Vikings return to the classrooms tomorrow, please keep an extra eye out for students getting on and off school buses. Let’s all do our part to help keep our students safe!

Please slow down, stay alert, and consider leaving a little earlier to allow for school bus traffic and extra stops. A few extra minutes can make a big difference.

Monday night at our monthly training , we invited the Cincinnatus Fire Department to join in some of the fun. This month we focused on hose advancement, pump operations, tanker, shuttle operations, & portable pond set up and placement. Are interior members got to practice hose advancement through a simulated course marked out with cones which they had to progress through without knocking any cones over. At the end of each simulated course, there were two cones set up simulating fire, which they then had to knock over with their hose. They worked in groups of three which they rotated around, allowing each person to work on each position. While the interior members were working on that corse other members were refreshing on pump operations and water shuttle.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything in defense of our nation.

Come join us today starting at 9am and visit with your local first responders. We will be at the firehouse with thing to see plus, we will be out back cooking up some tasty chicken halves which should be ready around 11am. Come check out our trucks and take some photos in them with the kiddos. We will also have a raffle table set up to win some great prizes. The Chenango County Sheriffs will also be there with there Child ID table set up. Come on out and see the rest of the activities going on here at the 17th annual Fishing & Heritage Event.
