Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who gave everything in defense of our nation.

Come join us today starting at 9am and visit with your local first responders. We will be at the firehouse with thing to see plus, we will be out back cooking up some tasty chicken halves which should be ready around 11am. Come check out our trucks and take some photos in them with the kiddos. We will also have a raffle table set up to win some great prizes. The Chenango County Sheriffs will also be there with there Child ID table set up. Come on out and see the rest of the activities going on here at the 17th annual Fishing & Heritage Event.

We would like to congratulate two of our members for there completion of IFO (Interior firefighting operations) 

Olin Comfort & Carl McCann put in another 50+ hours to sharpen skills to again help serve our community in a higher capacity. If you see them around give them a big thank you and congrats.

South Otselic Fire & EMS 2026 Pool filling season has started. Email us at [email protected] to set up a time for your pool fill this year. This year cost is $100.00 per tanker load and our tanker holds 2,000 gallons. Please keep in mind that we have a small group to do this, so pool fills will be done when we have the people available.

Come on out and join the fun May 16th, 2026 here in South Otselic for Fishing & Heritage event. Stop by the firehouse for a touch a truck and hang out with the firefighters along with getting your hands on some yummy chicken. There will also be a table set up to buy raffle tickets also to win some great prizes. The Chenango County Sheriffs will be present to do child ID's again this year again also. Reminder that the chicken is a first come, first served for this event.

DID YOU KNOW? In NYS when you see a vehicle approaching with a BLUE or GREEN Flashing Light in your rear-view mirror it is a VOLUNTEER Firefighter or EMT responding to either a Fire or Ambulance Call. These personnel need to get to the firehouse/EMS station or to the scene as quickly as possible to render the service needed in a timely fashion. PLEASE BE COURTEOUS and when safe to do so, PULL OVER, STOP and LET THEM PASS. Someone is depending on their help and sometimes seconds really do count.

Just a friendly reminder coming up in 2 weeks is this delicious event being held here at the South Otselic Fire Department on April 25th 2026. Come fill your bellies before heading out for the Poker Run taking place later that morning. We will be serving breakfast starting @ 7am for you early risers so throw on your boots, and head on down, and for you late risers we will be cooking till noon. See you all there !!!!!!!

South Otselic Fire & EMS serves residents across South Otselic and surrounding areas, providing fire protection, emergency medical services, and rescue operations. As a volunteer organization, we rely heavily on community partnerships and corporate support to maintain safe, reliable, and effective emergency services.

On the weekend of January 31–February 1, 2026, two members of our department completed the New York State Ice Rescue Technician course through the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

As a result, South Otselic Fire & EMS now has two certified Ice Rescue Technicians capable of responding to ice and cold-water emergencies.

Our department is currently fundraising to purchase these specialized Ice/Cold Water Rescue suits that enable our responders to safely perform rescues in these extremely hazardous environments. For a small volunteer agency, the cost of this equipment presents a significant financial challenge, so please consider buying a raffle ticket or two and help us reach our goal.
