Just prior to 7PM yesterday, Supervisor 3-0, Special Operations 3-1, and Ambulance 3-4 responded to a structure fire in South Orange.

On scene, EMS personnel established rehab and treatment areas in the event of any injuries or illnesses. There were no human patients, however a canine was ventilated, suctioned, and administered oxygen by Ambulance 3-4 personnel using pet first aid equipment donated to our agency by Invisible Fence Brand. This canine was eventually transported to an emergency vet by a neighbor.

Units operating on the fire scene cleared shortly after 8:30PM.

During this incident, Ambulance 3-3 took one unrelated call in South Orange.

Ambulance 3-2, 3-3, and 3-4, consisting of 9 EMTs, responded to 5 calls in the span of just over an hour yesterday evening. The crews were able to grab a quick photo at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in between the calls!

These dispatches ranged from a cardiac arrest, a poisoning, a person who fell, a pedestrian struck by a car, and a cardiac emergency. Four of these calls were in South Orange, one was in Maplewood.

* Free Face Painting and activities for kids

Last week was National EMS Week (May 17–23), and we kicked it off with a pizza-making event hosted by our very own volunteer and chef extraordinare, Sabatino of Sabatino’s Pizzeria at 513 Valley Street in Maplewood!

While we usually spend time together responding to emergencies, we rarely have the time to decompress from EMS as a team.

Last week we learned:

•That the thickness of dough:sauce:cheese ratio should be 1:1:1

•Know your toppings BEFORE you shape your dough

•Laughing with friends over pizza is sometimes the best medicine.
