Hello NJ Senators, the need is urgent.

New Jersey’s intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) community is asking for your support by co-sponsoring Senate Budget Resolution #261, which includes a 3% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for community-based services in the FY27 budget.

WHY IT MATTERS:
1. More than 5,000 people remain on the residential waiting list, many with priority needs.
2. Thousands of individuals continue to live in nursing homes who could be supported in community settings.
3. More than 4,500 graduates enter the adult service system each year.
4. Providers have absorbed nearly a decade of rising costs and can no longer keep pace with inflation.

A 3% COLA helps sustain direct support professional wages, housing, transportation, and critical community programs.

We appreciate you seeing us.

We appreciate you hearing us.

Your vote makes a difference.

Please support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and the community providers who serve them by co-sponsoring Senate Budget

Resolution #261.

Our clients had an incredible time participating in ACCESS JC, part of Jersey City's annual arts celebration at the Gallery.

This special exhibit showcased the talents, creativity, and unique perspectives of artists with disabilities, providing an opportunity for our clients to share their work with the broader community and be celebrated for their artistic achievements.

We are so proud of each artist who contributed to this exhibit and grateful to Art150 Gallery for creating a space where creativity is accessible, valued, and celebrated.

Congratulations to our talented clients on this wonderful accomplishment! 🖼️✨

Last night, at JESPY House, Inc.'s Spring 2026 Gala, our community came together to celebrate possibility, inclusion, and the incredible accomplishments of our clients, who are adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. We are privileged to serve and support them every day.

To everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, volunteered, and cheered on our mission, Thank You! Your support helps create opportunities for independence, employment, housing, community engagement, and so much more.

We are especially grateful to our honorees, supporters, and the countless individuals who made this year's Spring Gala such a success.

As we look through these photos, we're reminded that this work is about people, relationships, and a community that believes everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you 💙

Becoming disabled is a crash course in giving and receiving care, adapting to the unexpected, and accepting imperfection—all of which are crucial for parents, Jessica Slice wrote in 2025. https://theatln.tc/s9erBSkB

Slice has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and an associated neurological condition, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. When she adopted her daughter and started meeting up with other moms, she noticed that she seemed to be having an easier time than they were adjusting to parenthood. Over the past few years, she’s interviewed dozens of disabled and nondisabled parents from various racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. “I now believe that being disabled and learning from disability culture both prepared me for the challenges of early parenthood and ultimately set me up to be a more creative and flexible caregiver,” she writes.

“One way to think about the first week of parenthood is as a time when a large portion of a family is or becomes temporarily disabled. Not only does a new baby require relentless attention, but whoever gave birth also typically does. Even if you adopted a child, as I did, you’re likely exhausted,” she continues.

The nondisabled people Slice talked with were coming to terms with the reality that we cannot make our babies or our body do what we want them to. “The disabled people I spoke with, by contrast, had spent years of living in a body that rebelled and failed, and many had learned the hard way that recovery from surgery is long and arduous and that the body is impossible to predict,” she writes.

After becoming disabled at 28, Slice found herself learning to embrace imperfection and more willing to accept help, qualities that proved important when she became a parent. “You don’t have to be disabled to adopt this mindset,” she continues. For any parent it “might mean not obsessing over the expensive stroller you can’t afford and instead making do with the safe one passed down from a neighbor. In others, it might mean asking for more help at night. Once you learn to show yourself compassion, you may finally see, as I did, that you are giving your baby exactly what they need.”

✨ It's Gala Week! ✨

As we count down to our 2026 Spring Gala, we are honored to celebrate Bottle King as this year's Inclusive Employer Award recipient.

Since partnering with JESPY House in 2022, Bottle King has demonstrated what inclusive employment looks like in action, creating opportunities for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to find meaningful work, grow in confidence, and thrive. Today, JESPY clients are employed across three Bottle King locations, taking important steps toward greater independence and community inclusion.

One of those individuals is Amir. Watching Amir grow through his employment journey has been incredible. Through the support of the Bottle King team, he has developed new skills, increased his confidence, and continues to make a meaningful impact in his workplace. We are so proud of all he has accomplished and grateful for employers who see the potential in every person.
