To date, there is no long-term housing for survivors of s*x trafficking. The authorities can do little to help the victims, other than arresting them to keep them away from predators. Because these victims have been held in captivity for years, they are malnourished, suffering from PTSD, and have no high school diploma or vocational education with which to earn a living. The Glory House was create
d to provide safe housing, but rather than a temporary shelter, a long-term facility for these survivors, where they can receive medical care and psychological treatment, legal assistance, learn life skills, work to obtain their GED, and a vocational career. Most importantly, the calling of the Glory House is rooted in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'. Hence, the survivors will receive the redemptive love, healing, and hope that only Christ can give through spiritual mentoring. Currently, there is little awareness of s*x trafficking as a growing criminal enterprise in the U.S. Most people think of s*x trafficking as occurring in third-world countries and, yet, it is happening in our own cities, with Atlanta at the forefront and Miami among one of the top five cities for this type of organized crime. The reason being that s*x trafficking generates revenues estimated to be $235 million a year. Because of the growth in revenue, the focus of human traffickers has begun to shift from run-aways and alienated teens, and they are now targeting the average youth. One of the ways Glory House is engaging the community is through outreach by hosting trafficking awareness events, networking, and social media.
