TTFD is one of 8 stations that make up the Union Fire District. The Tuckertown Volunteer Fire Department was established on May 12, 1978. The organization was small at first wit
h only a handful of volunteers. Over the years both the Station and the responsibilities of the Station have grown. Tuckertown Fire Department helps 8 other Stations protect the 57.1 square miles that is the Town of South
Kingstown. Our membership has grown to roughly twenty active firefighters as well as several life and associate members. We house three engines at Station 8. We have a Class-A pumper as our first run piece, we have a “brush tanker” for our brush fire operations as well as a brush truck for backup and support. On top of our three trucks in the two bay Station we also house a rescue boat. Currently, the station is going through a major renovation. A new bay and meeting area will be added to the existing station for a total addition of 2500 square feet. Expected completion to be in early spring. Station 8 is not only a crucial role in structural firefighting operations, but a strong force in brush fire operations, the head of search and rescue, and a vital role in water rescue being the first boat in the water for both Wardens Pond, (the biggest pond in the state), and tuckers pond, also a busy fishing and swimming spot. Tuckertowns responsibility has grown exponentially over the years, and is looking at possibly taking on even more responsibility as the immediate area grows and develops. We are still one of the young Stations that make up The Union Fire District, but have proven to be a strong and crucial force that helps protect this town. As the Station grows the need for more volunteers grows. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining Tuckertown Volunteer Fire Department as a Firefighter, a driver, or even an associate member to help behind the scenes, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
