Life Saved Through Teamwork
Earlier this year, following the blizzard, a local resident was clearing snow when he began experiencing chest pain. Recognizing that something was wrong, he did exactly the right thing and called 911.
Before EMS arrived, the patient suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts of South Kingstown EMS and our partners at the Union Fire District and South Kingstown Police, the patient was successfully resuscitated and transported for definitive care.
Today, we are proud to share that the patient was discharged from the hospital just four days later with no complications—a remarkable outcome that highlights the importance of early recognition, immediate action, high-quality resuscitation, and exceptional teamwork.
This week in recognition of their outstanding efforts, the Rhode Island Ambulance Service Advisory Coordinating Advisory Board presented the following South Kingstown EMS providers with the EMS Pride Award for providing exceptional patient care and helping save a life,
Captain Jonathan Miller
Lt. Sarah Peet
Paramedic William Smart
Also recognized for their efforts were the members of the Union Fire District, whose rapid response, teamwork, and dedication played a critical role in achieving this successful outcome.
FF Bennett Souza
FF Pat Young
FF Nick Humes
This recognition reflects the dedication, skill, and professionalism our providers bring to every call. We congratulate these EMS professionals on this well-deserved honor and thank all of the EMS, fire, dispatch, and hospital personnel whose teamwork contributed to this remarkable outcome.
Most importantly, we are grateful that this patient was able to return home to his family and continue enjoying life.
❤️🚑 Exceptional teamwork. Exceptional care. A life saved. 🚒❤️
